To all whom it may concern: r -Be -it known that .I, HANsMiiLLnR, a citizen of the Swiss Confederation, and residing. at Dietikon, Switzerland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Warp. Stop Motion.
. My invention relates to devices in looms and warping machines for indicating the rupture of warp threads, and its object is to provide an improved device which. shall be simple to construct .and reliable in operation.
According to the invention rows of prongs mounted to swing in their longitudinaldirection, are disposed transversely of the the longitudinal direction of the prongs so that that row of prongs with which a broken warp thread contacts is caused to oscillate and the allotted signal device is actuated.
Preferably, the rows of prongs are arranged each ona lever having two laterally projecting arms, in the path of each. of which is situated a movable tongue that constitutes a point of support for a .con-
tact-lever andreleases the same when the.
tongue is moved by its allotted arm, so that the contact-lever can close an-ele'ctric circuit containingthe said'signal device.
Conveniently, the movable tongue is mounted toswing about an horizontal axisand, when horizontal, holds the contact-lever in aslanting position there bemg located within reach of the contact-lever a fixed contact-piece withwhich the contact-lever automatically contacts when itis released by the tongue under which engages an a-rm of the swinging lever provided with prongs. The said movabletongue maybear on a lateral lug of the contact-lever and hold .it by means of a downwardly directed nose in an inclined position in which the contactlever does not make contact with the fixed contact-piece, the arrangement being such that when the; tongue is lifted by anarm of the lever carrying'the prongs, the nose of the tongueis moved away from the lag of the contact-leverand the latter can swing under the actionof gravity aga nst the fixed contact-piece. v

On the inner side wall of the beam 1 two contact-levers 15 are freely rotatably mounted each on a fixed axle 16 between two spindles at. These contact-levers 15 cross one another and lie slantwise. of the levers 15 are made heavierthan the lower so that they overbalance the latter and consequently tend to turn causing the lower ends to swing upwards and lie each against the downwardly bevelled free end of a contact-arm 17 that extends, below the beam 1. This arm 17 is mountedon a support 18 of insulating material secured to the outside of the beam 1.
The bearings 12 and electric lamps 19 are carried by the support 18. The lampholders 20 are electrically connected-by conductors 21 with the axles 16 of the allotted contactlevers 15 at the twosides. The bases 22 of the lamp-holders are connected with a conductor 23 common to them all leading from one pole of an electric battery 24 to whose other pole the contact-arms 17 are connected through the conductor 25. Included in the conductor 25 is an electromagnet 26 whose armature 27 is connected with the stopping device, (not shown) for stopping the loom, so that when the electromagnet is energized the loom is stopped in well known manner.
The lamps 19 are covered by a plate 28 detachably mounted on the support 18. The plate is provided over each lamp with a round hole 29, instead of which a slot may be used if desired.
An axle. 30 is journaled on the support 18 below the beam 1; this axle is provided for each two contact-levers 15 with an arm 31 projecting between the latter. Also, one end of the axle 30 carries a lever 32 that is connected with the armature of an electromagnet not shown in the drawing. On
starting the loom this electromagnet is tem-- porarily energized and the axle-30 is thereby so rotated that all the arms 31 swing clownwards simultaneously and so 0 erate the contact-levers 15 that they rock c own away from their allotted contact-arms 17 at their lower ends, whilst their upper ends rock up beyond their allotted tongues 11. \Vhen the lever 32 swings back the arms 31 release the contact-levers 15, and in consequence of the greater weight of their upper arms these will bear against the tongues 11 being arrested by the latter in such a position that the lower arms do not contact with the contactarms 17, so that the above described circuit is not closed and the lamps are not lit.
A carriage which comprises two sheetmetal frames or girders 34 mounted on roller axles 33 at the two sides of the members 8, 9 (only one frame 34k is shown in the drawing) is 'moved' to-and-fro parallel to The upper arms the longitudinal direction of the beams 1 and land, consequently parallel to the rows of prongs 9. The reciprocatory motion is brought about by means of a link 35 pivoted to a disk-crank, not shown, driven by the loom. The frames 34 have upwardly bent flanges at their longitudinal edges and are provided with teeth 36. Between these toothed edges is arranged a layer 37 of felt or brushes. In order that the ruptured war threads shall lie without fail on the layer 37 of felt and in the teeth 36 and,-consequently, also in one of the gaps in the rows of prongs 9 .a blowing device, not shown, and not constituting part of this invention, is provided'in well-known manner above the warp threads.
In the modification the toothed edges of the frames 3st of the carriage are omitted, so that the layers 37 of felt or brushes, e. g. of wire, solelyserve as carriers for the fractured warp threads, This modified construction of carriage is particularly adapted for silk looms, as silk threads adhere suiliciently firmly to the rough felt or brushes in order to set a row of prongs in oscillation. I
The device described. as above operates as follows Then a warp thread breaks it is blown shown in Figure 1 by the said blowing device down on to the reciprocating carriage; it will lie. transversely of the direction of movement of the latter on the layers 37 of felt and between teeth 36 of the frames 34 and between prongs 9 of the members 8 or between two adjacent levers 6. In consequence of the reciprocatory movement of the carriage the ruptured warp thread 3" (Figure 3) lying on it is i moved in relation to the member 8, 9 adjacent thereto so that it abuts against the said member and rocks it. The weight 7 of the lever 6 carrying the member 8 in question turns the lever in consequence of inertia so far that a tongue 11 or 11 is lifted by one of the laterally projecting arms 10 or 10 until the upper end of the contact-lever 15 bearing against it loses its support on the tongue and swings downwards. The lower end of the said contact-lever then bears against the allotted contact-arm 17 and closes the circuit including the signal lamp 19 connected to the axle 16 ofthe-contactlever. The lamp lights up and the loom'is simultaneously stopped by the electromagnet 26, 27. The lit signal lamp at once shows where the broken warp thread is situated and facilitates its discovery and seizure. On starting the loo-m the circuit-closing contactlever 15 is returned into its normal position by the arm 31 that hits against it.

These levers 15 are held by downwardly directed noses 11 of the tongues 11 in a slanting position wherein they do not contact with the contactarms l7 that project below the beam 1. The construction according to Figures 5 and 6 is simpler than that shown in Figures 1 to 3. The lateral pivots of the contactlevers 15 and the tongues 11 can be simply,
inserted into the downwardly enlarged slots- 113 and 13 in the bearing 12 special spindles passing through the beam 1 for the contact-levers are not'required, and the contact-levers themselves are of simpler form. Consequently the manufacture and erection ofthis construction of apparatus are simpler. v
Compared with the well-known mechanisms comprising combs, some of whicharemounted to rock an'd'are connected with a device for stopping the loom, which combs are brought alternately into and out of engagement with one another, the above described apparatuses are much simpler and considerably lighter and can therefore be made at a' lower cost and can be more rapidly erected. In mechanism for indicating :the'rup-' ture of warp threads, the combination with a frame, of two movable carriers for ruptured "warp, threads mounted to reciprocate on said frame in a direction transverse'of the longitudinal direction of the warp threads to be controlled and adapted to carry. a ruptured thread'in the said transverse direction, a lever mounted to rock between said carriers insaid transverse direction, means carried by said lever and arranged to be engaged by a ruptured thread carried by said carriers and thereby rock said lever, signalling lamps and means controlled by said lever normally preventing said signalling lamps from iving a signal.

In mec anism for indicating the rupture of warp threads, the combination with a frame, of two movable carriers for ruptured warp threads mounted to reciprocate in a direction transverse of the longitudinal direction of the warp threads to be controlledand adapted to carry a ruptured thread in the said transverse direction, a lever mounted to rock between said carriers in said transverse direction, a row of prongs carried by said lever and arranged to be engaged by a ruptured thread carried by said carriers and thereby rock said lever, signalling lamps, a member tending to actuate said signalling lamps, and a stop con trolled by said lever normally holding said member in its inoperative position.

In mechanism for indicating the-rupture of warp threads, the combination with a frame, of two movable carriers for ruptured warp threads mounted to'reciprocate on said frame in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the warp threads to b controlled thereby and adapt ed to carry a ruptured thread in the said transverse direction, a lever mounted to rock between said carriers in said transverse direction, means carried by said lever and arranged to be engaged by a ruptured thread carried by said carriers and thereby rock said lever, electric signalling lamps comprising a fixed contact-piece and a pivoted circuit-closing member tending under gravity to contact with said contact-piece, and a tongue mounted to swing about an horizontal axis and having a nose arranged to coact with said circuit-closing,member and hold the same in its cut-out position, said lever having an arm arranged to rock said tongue and remove said nose from said circuit-- closing member when said lever is rocked by a broken warp thread. 7 y

In mechanism for indicating the rupture of warp threads, the combination with two beams, of two movable carriers for ruptured warp threads mounted to reciprocate on said frame and carry a ruptured thread in a direction transverse of the longitudinal direction of the warp threads, a lever mounted to swing between said carriers in said transverse direction about a horizontal axis and carrying a weight below said axis, means carried by said lever and arranged to be engaged by a ruptured thread carried by said carriers and thereby rocl: said lever, signalling lamps, and means controlled by said lever normally preventing said signalling lamps from giving a signal.

In mechanism forindicating the rupture of warp threads the combination with beams mounted in the transverse direction of the warp threads to: be controlled, of two movable carriers for ruptured warp threads arranged to reciprocate along said beams, said carriers having each a rough upper sure face and upstanding teeth'at each sidethereof adapted .to engage a ruptured thread and carry the same in said transverse direction, means mounted between said carriers to move in said transverse direction, said means being adapted to be engaged by a ruptured thread carried by said carriers and be moved thereby in said transversedirection, and signalling lamps arranged to be controlled by said former means.

In mechanism for indicating the rupture of warp threads, the combination with two parallel beams mounted in the transverse direction of the warp threads to be controlled, of two movable carriers for ruptured warp threads mounted to reciprocate along said beams, said carriers being adapted to engage a ruptured thread and carry the same in said transverse direction, means mounted between said carriers and adapted tobe moved by a carried Warp thread in said transverse direction, a support carried by one of said beams, and signalling means comprising a lamp carried by said support arranged to be controlled by said former means.

In mechanism for indicating the rupture of warp threads, the combination with two parallel beams mounted in the transverse direction of the warp threads to be controlled, of two movable carriers for ruptured warp threads mounted to reciprocate along said beams, said carriers being adapted to engage a ruptured thread and carry the same in said transverse direction, a plurality of levers each having prongspat its upper end mounted to swing between said carriers, said prongs being adapted to be moved by a carried warp thread and thereby rock said levers, a support carried by one of said beams, signalling means comprising lamps, one for each lever carried by said. support arranged to be controlled by said levers, and a port above said lamps, said plate having an aperture above each lamp.

In mechanism for indicating the rupture of warp threads, the combination two parallel beams spaced apart and mount- 7 to coact each with one plate carried by said sup with ed in the transverse direction of the warp threads to be controlled, of a carriage comprising two carriers mounted to reciprocate along said beams, said carriers having between them a gap extending lengthwise of said beams and having each a roughened upper surface adapted to engage a ruptured thread and carry the same in said transverse direction, a plurality of levers each having prongs at its upper end mounted to swing in said gap between said drivers, said prongs being arranged to be moved by carried warp threads and thereby rock each an allotted lever, a support carried by one of said beams, and signalling means com prising a plurality of setsof lamps, fixed contact-pieces, circuit-closing members, and tongues for holding the'latter'open, one set for each lever, mounted on one of said beams, each lever having an arm arranged of said tongues and release the same from its allotted circuitcloslng member when by a driven thread.
