a citizen of theUnited States, and residentl for looms and has for its general object to provide a novel picker check vwhich 1s sim-y plein construction and which is .easily applied to any loom and which functions not only to check the picker on its backward movement but which serves to also prevent any rebound in the picker.
The featuresv wherein the invention resides will be more fully hereinafter set forth and then pointed out inthe appended claim.
In the drawings wherein I have shown a selected embodiment of my invention, Fig. 1 is a plan view of one end of the lay of a loom with the shut-tle box thereon and showing my improved picker check in its normal position;

Inasmuch as my present invention relates simply to the picker check I haveshown only such portions of a loom as is necessary to illustrate the invention.

My improved picker check is pivotally mounted on the lay adjacent the end of the shuttle box and is acted on by a spring which normally holds it in the path of the picker so that when the shuttle enters the box and moves the picker back to the end of the slot 3 the picker will engage the picker serial No. 622,758.

The picker-engaging portion 13 of the picker check is formed with the curved picker-engaging face 20. The parts are so constructed that the picker check normally occupies a position shown in Fig. 1 with the portion 13 thereof extending partk way across the opening 3. The spring 16 tends to hold v the picker check in this position but allows it to swing lbackwardly into the positionshown in Fig.` 2 and during the swinging movement lof the picker check from the position shown in Fig. l to that shown in Fig. 2 the spring will be wound up or placed under increased tension.
The operation of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing. After the .shuttle has been thrown from the shuttle box the picker check will occupy the position shown in Fig. 1. When the shuttle returns to the shuttle box Ait engages the picker 5 and carries the picker Stick backwardly to the end of the slot 3 and during the last portion of the movement of the picker stick the picker will engage the curved face 2O of the picker check and force the latter back into the position shown in Fig. 2 against the action of the spring 16. This will apply a frictional pressure to the picker which will resist in retarding and checking thismovement.
The picker check is so constructed that the picker wipes by it in its backward move; ment so that when the picker finally comes to rest at the endof the slot as shown in Fig. 2 the picker check is bearing against the side of the picker. Owing to this construction and to the shape of the curved face 2O of the picker check the latteryfunctions when in the position shown in Fig. 2 to prevent rebound of the picker and thus holds it in its rearward position. rIhe picler check, therefore, functions both as a means for retarding the backward movement of theV picker and as a lmeans for preventing rebound of the picker.
The binder 6 operates in usual manner to check the momentum of the incoming shuttle and my improved picker check functions separately or independently from the binder to assist in checking the final movement of the picker. The use of the shouldered bolt 8 provides means whereby the tension of the spring 16 can be adjusted. If it is desired to increase the checking action of the picker check 13 then the nut 12 may be loosened and the bolt 8 turned in the lay so as to increase the tension of the spring 16, and by then tightening the nut so as to clamp the shoulder 11 firmly against the top of the lay the bolt will be retained in such adjusted position and the increased tension on the spring will be maintained. The
picler check, therefore, is not only inde-l pendent froni the binder but can be adjusted independently from thebinder.
The device is extremely simple in construction and can be readily applied to any loom.
I claim.
In a loom, the combination with a lay having a shuttle box thereon and a shuttle binder, of a picker stick carrying a picker, a shouldered bolt extending through the lay adjacent one end of the shuttle box and on the opposite side thereof from the binder, ay picker check pivotally mounted on the bolt and situated above the lay, a spring encircling the bolt and having one end anchored thereto and the other end connected to the picker check and a nut on the bolt co-operating with the shoulder to hold the .bolt in adjusted position with the spring at the desired tension.
