Be it hown that I, Perm nor a citizen of the United States, residing at yracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pressure Compensators for Presses, of which the following is a specification,
This invention relates to presses and hndred machinery, and more particularly to an improved pressure compensator for garment presses,
Among the several objects of this invention, a primary one is to produce a pressure compensating device used in connection with all types of garment pressing machinery for. transmitting an even, firm yet slightly yieldable pressure from the prune mover to the part moved as for example the press head working against the garment on the buck Some garment presses are subjected to usages of a varying nature and in fact rough when. pressing garments of various usa e thhkesses and when worked by inexperienced operators The device constituting (this invention establishes uniform and even trates a side elevation of a typical garment press embodying a pressure compensator.

The foregoing description covers generally the organization of some of the machine parts employed in a typical garment pres, and the present invention has to do v more particularly with one member or part 15 ot the main press toggle ld-l5, which has been above referred to as a compensator, a description of which will now be given: p v
A spring cup or base ,l5'is provided with depending spaced parallel ears 24 with a hole therethru providing for a pin 25 to attach the lower end of the compensator device to the upper epd of the toggle part 14. 'The spring cup is flanged as pointed out at 26 and a threaded bore 27 made centrally through this base part.

When the pressure compensator 15 is installed within the press lever 5 and has its lever end attached to the toggle part 14, as hereinbefore described, why'then, the pres sure compensator itself acting with the part 14 constitutes the main toggle of the press;
and when the foot lever or pedal 9 is thrust downwardly the toggle 14-15 straightens to jam the head 7 against the buck 6. 'In executing this pressing action, the lateral force developed ilr the toggle '1112 straightens the vertical toggle 1415,.whereupon the thrust is translated into a vertical force exerted through the straightened vertical toggle, and against the back end of the press lever 5. r
The force working against the press lever to close the head 7 is transmitted from the base, 15 through the spring 28 to the spring cap 29 and then through the adjusting screws 36 to the pressure block 31 and finally delivered'against the press lever 5. Now in case the toggle part 15 was of the rigid or non-yielding type, there would be considerable danger of breaking some part of the press. But by employing the yieldable yet very stiff and firm spring 28, the'danger of breakages is eliminated without impairing the pressing capabilities of the machine.
At times a press is put to unusual hard tasks in pressing very thick and heavy goods and in such; cases the distance between the points 38 and 16 on the press must be adjusted or shortened up so that the vertical toggle will straighten by, the time the head closes on the garment. This is accomplished by rotating thc'stem 27 to draw the pressure block and base closely together; and when this adjustment is made it is usually practical to loosen up on the spring 28 by unscrewing the adjusting screws 36 to relieve slightly the increased pressure of spring 28. Again it is often necessary to slightly. vary the pressure between the pressing elements 6 and 7 in the treatment of various kinds of fabrics; and less pressure or more pres sure as desired, may be obtained by the proper adjustment of the screws 36 to vary the compression of the spring 28.

A pressure compensator for presses comprising a pressure block with a bearing hole to pivotally mount the block on a press part, said block having another bearing hole formed longitudinally therethru and passing at right angles thru' the first named bearing hole, a'spring base, a spring confined between the base and block, a spring cap disposed between the block and spring end, spring adjusting screws cooperating with the block and cap to increase or decrease the spring mpression, and an adjusting screw coopcrating with the block and base to vary, the
overall length of the compensatorand-rotatably confined within the second bearing comprising a pressure block, a sleeve formed thereon, a spring base, a' compression spring disposed on the sleeve and having one end supported on the spring base, a spring cap slidably confined on the sleeve and bearing against the other end of the spring, a screw,
means for adjusting the position of the spring cap in relation to the block toadjust the spring compression, and an adjustrng stem guided in the sleeve and CODIIBCtGdrWIth the spring base and block to vary the overall length of the compensator.
4. A pressure compensator-andequalizer comprising a block, two independent screw.
