To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, A UAsrE E. WEIT KAMP, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement .in Containers, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to bottles or.
other vessels or receptacles for dispensing liquids or other fluids, preferably in measured quantities or units. My present invention aims to provide devices of the charac ter specified which shall be simple and economical to manufacture, and convenient and efficient in operation.
A further object of my invention is to provide devices of the character specified in such forms that the bottles 01' other vessels or receptacles cannot ordinarily be refilled, but require the use of special and technical equipment for their refilling, such as only a licensed or authorized filler of the bottles or other vessels or receptacles may be expected to possess.
By way of illustration, I shall, in the ac companying specification, describe several illustrative embodiments of the device of my invention, it being, however, clearly understood that my invention is not limited to such illustrative embodiments which are herein described for purposes of illustration only.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which I have illustrated several illustrative-embodiments of the device of my invention,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of one illustrative embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a similar view, partly broken away, of the device of Figure 1 with the filling apparatus installed and in operaton; and
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1 of a slightly modified embodiment of the invention.
Referring now more particularly to the device shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing, 10 represents the bottle or other vessel as a whole. The bottle 10 preferably comprises an outer or dispensing compartment 11 and an inner of containing compartment 12. The outer or dispensing compartment 11 communicates by means of a tube 13 with the mouth 14 of the bottle 10.
Communication between the outer compartment 11 and the inner compartment 12 is by means of any suitable device which' normally serves to prevent access of liquid from said outer or dispensing compartmentinto said inner or containing compartment.
Said communication should also be of such' a character as to permit the flow from the containing compartment 12 into the dispensmg compartment 11 of only a measured or predetermined quantity or unit of liquid or other fluid. For this purpose I provide the lower end of the containing compartment 12 ably, the branches 17 and 19 are transverse to the length of the bottle'so'as to be substantially horizontal when the bottle is upright; In this way the opening20 of the seal 15 is nearthe inner face of the outer compartment 11 and is horizontally positioned.
The bottle comprising the illustrative embodiment of my invention shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing may be utilized in substantially the following manner: There is inserted in the mouth 14 of the bottle a cork or other stopper 21 through which passes a pipe 22 having a cook or other valve 23 controlling communication of the tube 22 with any suitable evacuating means, such as an exhaust pump. Also passing through the cork or other stopper 21, and like the tube 22 communicating with the interior of the bottle 10, is a tube 24 provided with a cork or other valve 25 and leading to the source of supply of the liquid or other fluid with which the bottle 10 is to be filled. In the filling operation the cook 23 is first turned so as to bring the evacuating device into operative connection with theinterior of the bottle 10, the cook 25 being closed. The evacuating device is now maintained in operation until the bottle 10 has been evacuated, whereupon the cook 23 is closed and the cook 25 is opened. By reason of the vacuum now existing :in the bottle 10 in both the dispensing compartment 11 and the containing compartment 12, liquid rapidly fills all parts of the bottle 10, including both the dispensing and containing compartments, up to the desired point,

as to the line 26 shown in Figure 1 oi the drawing. The cook 25 is now closed and the bottle sealed in any desired or usual way.
In dispensing the contents of a bottle filled as above, it will be noted that on inverting the bottle the contents of the dispensing compartment 11 will be emptied through the tube 13 and the mouth 14: of the bottle, but very little or none of the liquid in the containing compartment will be removed during this first dispensing (hi restoring the bottle to'its normal posit-ion a quantity of liquid flows out of ,the containing compartment 12 through the seal 15 until the opening 20 in the seal is covered up by the liquid in the dispensing compartment 11, whereupon the opening 20 will be sealed against the fur ther flow of liquid from the containing com partment 12 into the dispensing compart ment 11. The dispensing operation is now repeated by inverting the bottle 10, only a measured or unitquantity oat liquid flow ing out of the dispensing compartment 11, which quantity of liquid is replaced by flow from the containing compartment into the dispensing compartment on restoring the bottle to its normal or upright position.
The modification of the device shown in Figure 3 of the drawing is substantially similar to the device shown in Figures 1 and except that the bottle 10 hasno tube but instead a passageway 13 communicating with the dispensing chamber 11 by means of a seal 15 which connects the dispensing chamber 11 with the containing chamber 12. In this case the seal 15 is made up of a whole series of branches 17 and 19 which are successively connected by -the bends 18, the seal having an opening 20. The manner or filling this type of bottle and the operation of it are substantially the same as for the bottle already described, and need not be further elaborated here.
It is, of course, to be understood that my invention is not limited to the particular embodiments thereof herein shown and described for purposes of illustration only.
What I claim is:
1. A vessel for dispensing units of fluid comprising a dispensing compartment, a containing compartment, and a communication between said dispensing and containing compartments serving normally to prevent access of liquid from said dispensing compartment into said containing compartment, said communication being adapted to permit the flow of a measured quantity offluid from said containing compartment into said dispensing compartment for dispensing through said dispensing compartment.
2. A bottle for dispensing units of liquid comprising, in combination, a dispensing compartment, a containing compartment, and a communication, in the form of a reflex seal between said dispensing and containing compartments, said communication serving normally to prevent accessof liquid from said dispensing compartment into said containing compartment and to permit the flow of a measured quantity of liquid from said containing compartment dispensing compartment for dispensing through said dispensing compartment.
3. A bottle for dispensing units of liquid comprising an outer dispensing compart ment, an inner containing compartment, and a communication in the form of a reflex seal between said dispensing and containing compartments serving normally to prevent access of liquid from said dispensing compartment into said containing compartment.

A non-refillable bottle fordispensing units of liquid comprising, in combination, an outer dispensing compartment, an inner containing compartment, and a communication in the form of a refieX seal between said dispensing and containing compartments serving normally to prevent access ofliquid from said dispensing compartment into said containing compartment and to permit the flow of a measured quantity of liquid from said containing compartment into said dispensingcompartment for dispensing through said dispensing compartment.
