Boxes, of which the following is a specifica#` tion.

Inthe shipment or transportation of certain classes of merchandise, particularly .clothing or wearing apparel, it is the common practice to' use paper, card or fiber These boxes are often shipped expressed or shipped without being sealed; a cord or string being sometimes passed around the boxes and tied frequently happens that the lids of these boxes are raised while in transit and the hands of unauthorized persons inserted and the contents removed; the lids then being closed and the boxes to all outward 'appearances being intact and in full possession of their contents.

It is the primary object of the present invention to provide means whereby the now commonly used shipping boxes of this character may be made more difficult of access to the interiors thereof, whereby to reduce to a great extent the obnoxious practice mentioned, and to render it practically impossible to handle or remove the contents of the boxes without leaving outward signs or indications of such acts.

The invention aims further to provide means of an extremely simple nature for the accomplishment of these ends, and whereby the shipping packages constructed in accordance with the invention are rendered less liable to crushing or breaking as a result of rough handling in shipment.

A still further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the contents of the box may be easily and quickly sealed against unauthorized inspection or handling, and which acts to prevent dirt or dust gaining access to the contents of the box.

With these objects in view, together with others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all as will be described more fully hereinafter, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed. The box shown in the present illustration as constructed in accordance with the invention is one of familiarl construction; being of rectangular shape and comparatively shallow, providing a bottom 5, end walls 6, side walls 7, and a removable top or cover 8. The cover may be either hingedly connected at one edge to the tray portion of the box, or may be entirely removable there- L from, as shown lin the present illustration. However, the particular form of box or cover arrangement forms no part of the present invention.

It is proposed, in connection with boxes of this general character, to provide flaps, wings or cover plates to overlie the contents of the tray portion of the box, and these wings or fiaps wholly protect the box contents and are to be securely sealed over the same. The material of which these wings or flaps are made may be the same as used in the construction of the box itself.

The wings, in the present instance, are of relatively heavy card or liber board, and one wing is attached to each side wall of the box tray; being of equal length with the box. Each wing has at one edge thereof an attaching means in the form of a supplemental or reinforcing wall 9, equal in length and depth with the side walls of the box tray. These supplemental wall portions are secured to the inner faces of the sides 7 of the tray by the securing staples or clips 10 and the wing portions or members 1l connect with these supplemental walls in the plane of the upper edges of the box tray sides and ends. The wing members are adapted in use to lie flush with the upper edges of the box tray parallel with the bottom 5 of the box and hingedly connect with their respective walls.
