To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAM REEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, in the county of Vanderburgh and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Screens. of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in window screens, and consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only and are there fore not drawn to scale Figure 1 is an inside elevation of window frame and casing and the upper and lower sashes, illustrating the application of my invention.

Figure 2 is a horizontal section, taken on line 2-2 of Figure 2.

Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal section.

Figure 4 is a bottom plan View of one of the roller frames and associated parts and Figure 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the frames.

Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A. design-ates the window. frame or casing, B the upper sash, C the lower sash and D and E the upper and lower spring rollers, respectively.

The spring roller D is mounted in a horizontal transverse angle frame or casing 1 of suitable metal secured to the top member 2 of the window casing directly over the lower sash B, while the spring roller C is mounted in a corresponding frame or casing 3 secured directly to the lower rail of the upper sash.

The spring roller D has wound thereon a strip 5 of wire screen or cloth whose free end is attached by the metal strip 6 to the inner face of the top rail 7 of the upper sash. The spring roller E has wound thereon a strip 8 of wire screen or'cloth whose lower free end is clamped between the wood and metal cross strips 9 and 10, respectively, the latter being equipped with the knob or handle 11 and with the transverse apertures 12 adapted to engage the upper horizontal Serial No. 593,555.

The angle frames or casings 1 and 3, re spectively are arranged with their upper horizontal portions 16 fitting against the top member of the window casing and the bottom rail of the upper sash and are held in removable position by the right angularly bent keeper pins 17 and 18, respectively. The pins 17 are driven in place with their lower horizontal port-ions 19 extending through corresponding apertures in the vertical members 20 of the frames 1 and 3 while the pins 18 engage recesses 21 formed in the outer edges of the horizontal portions of said frames and may be turned in to clamp the bottom faces of said horizontal portions.

It will be evident that when the upper sash is lowered, the wire screen 8 will automatically wind upon the spring roller E and the wire screen 5 unwind from the spring roller D and vice versa. Also, that the sash and screens may be adjusted to either extreme or any intermediate position.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A. window screen fixture comprising a housing of sheet metal having rectangularly disposed side sections and end sections lying in planes at right angles to the length of the housing, a screen roller journaled in the end sections, one of the side sections being provided at its outer edge portion with recesses leading in from the edge thereof and disposed at right angles to the said edge, the other side section being provided with apertures located in the vicinity of the inner edges of both side sections and pins having angularly disposed end portions,-one end portion of each pin adapted to engage in a support and the other end portion of each pin adapted to engage the inner surface of the recessed side section when the housing is applied.
