The batch box 13 employed by me comprises a body having the bottom dumping doors 14. Connected with the doors 14tare links 15 which lead to the upper portion of the sides ot the batch box, as seen in Fig, 3, an-d are attached to loops or eyes 16, the peculiar form ot which is best seen in Fig. 5.
The ends ot the batch box are provided with keepers 17 ot' somewhat U form rigidly secured thereto.
The hoisting means tor the batch box 13, as per my invention, comprises the constructions shown in Figures to 3 inclusive, rather than the construction which is illustrated in Fig. 1, which terms the subject matter oi an application tor patent separate from this one. 1n general principle the hoisting line control, however, is the same as shown in Fig. 1, where the hoisting cable 18 is seen as passing over a wheel 19 on. top ot the trame 2() of the machine, down thru a hollow portion ot the mast 5, under a wheel 21, thence out over a wheel 22 on the upper end ot the boom, thence down over a guide wheel on a cross piece 23 forming a part ot' the supporting and grappling means for the batch box. Keepers 17 before mentioned are engageable by a second supporting bar 28 having seats in its opposite ends preferably to receive the keepers 17 when said bar is shifted lengthwise to cause its ends to be received by said keepers. Referringnow to the construction in Figures 6, 7, and8. It willl be observed that a. large numberof the parts illustrated are substantially'the same as shown and described hereinbeforefand rare ,correspondingly numbered therefore. In the modified form, however, I provide on the boom 9, preferably dependent from the outer exbracket 34 arranged so that its lower end may abut with the member 23 at a. certain point in the upward movement of the latter. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire-to secure by Letters Patent, is; Y Q i l 1. Batch 'box handling apparatus coin` prising a hoi ting cable, a batch box comprising dumping doors and operative connections intermediate the doors of the batch box and the said cable'and intermediate the said cable and thebatch' box body together with means to act on one "of said connections whereby on proper'movemen'tfof the cable relative movements may be imparted to the batch box body and its ,doors to open the same for dumping action.
2. ln combination, a hoisting and dumping cable,'batch box apparatus comprising a batch box and vdumping doors, grappling devices intermediate thecable' and the batch box, and intermediate said cable and the doors, in both instances for detachable cooperation with the box and said doors, and means cooperative with the connections between the cable and the batch box and its doors such that movement of the cable .is adapted to impart Arelative movement to the batch box body and the doors to effect dumping` of the latter.

In combination, a batch box and a dumping door therefor mounted thereon, a single line control mechanism for causing dumping action of the batch box thru the opening of its door and forclosing the door thereafter, comprising a cable, detachable connecting means intermediate the cable and the body of the batch box and other detachable connecting means intermediate the cable and the door, and stop means cooperative with. .one of said batch box parts to limit its movement whilst the movement of .the other is continued, whereby manipulation of the cable will cause a dumping of the batch box and a further manipulation may cause a closing of the batch box.
',5, In combination, la batch box apparatus comprising a box and a dumping door therefor,'a single line controlling means for causing dumping action of the batch box and including detachable grappling devices connectible with the batch box body and with thesaid door, a cable so connected with the parts 'of the grappling devices as to cause upon movement of the cable simultaneous movement of .the batch box and its door, andmeans to limit the extent of movement of one of the parts of the batch box and door unit to enable the other part to continue movement while the first part is relatively stationary, vall under the iniiuence of said cable to effect dumping of the box during operation of the cable.

In combination, a batch box apparatus comprising a box and a dumping door therefor, a single line controlling means for causing dumping action of the batch box and including .detachable grappling devices connectible with the batch box body and with the said door, a cable so connected with the parts of the grappling devices as to cause upon movement of the cable simultaneous `movement of the bath box and its door, and
means to limit the extent of movement of one ot the parts off the bath box and door unit to enable the other part to continue movement while the first part is relatively stationary, to effect dumping oi" the box during operation of the cable, said grappling device parts and cable operating in a reverse manner to lcause certain relative .movements or" the batch box and door to .close the box and thus restore it to normal receiving condition.
7. In combination, :a batch box and dumping door therefor, a crane comprising a boom, a hoisting land operating cable connected with the boom, a grappling device comprising an engaging bar detachably cooperating with the body of the batch box` and a hoisting cross-piece having a detachable connection with the door of the bath box, a connection intermediate such crosspiece and said engaging bar, and the cable, such that these parts may be caused to move simultaneously and means for stopping the movement of one -of the engaging bar and cross-piece parts aforesaid to enable the other part to continue its movement and thus obtain a relative movement between thebatch box and its door to etect opening of the latter under the control of the movement' of the cable, a reversal of the movement of the parts being adapted to cause a closing of the door `ot `the batch box.

Grappling apparatus for' batch box-es' comprising' an engaging bar engageable with the body of a batch boxV andhaving guide wheels thereon, a hoisting cross-piece having hooks adapted to connect with doors of a batch box and also equipped with guide wheels thereon, and a hoisting and operating cablewove about the guide wheels of said cross-piece and said engaging bar substantially as described. y
9. Grappling apparatus for batch box hoisting purposes comprising door connecting hooks, a Ycross-piece from which said hoolrs are suspended, a handle connected to said hooks for simultaneous connection for engaging the same with door parts, an engaging bar adapted to be engaged with the body of a batch box when the said Vhooks are connected with the said doors thereof, guide wheels on the Vengaging bar and on said cross-piece, an operating ca-ble Wove around said guide wheels to place the cross-piece and engaging' bar in suspension for raising or lowering the same together, and means for limitingthe movement of one of the engaging bars and cross-piece parts so that the other part may move and thus controlling the relative movements of those parts of the batch box with which they are connected.
10. A batch box comprising dumping doors, two 'hoi-sting parts, keepers on the body of said batch box adapted to be engaged by a hoisting part, and eyes or loops connected with the doors yalso to enable connection of the latter with a second hoisting part, and .a single 'hoisting cable cooperative with both of `said parts to control simultaneous movement thereof, and means to compel independent movement of the hoisting parts by said cable to controldumping and closing of the box.
ll. In combination, batch box hoisting apparatus including a batch box comprising a body and dumping doors, the body equipped with keepers at opposite sides thereof, eyes connected with the dumping doors of the box and located'on other opposite sides of the latter, grappling means for detachable connection with the said eyes and said keepers, and inoluding engaging bars to engage the keeper-s, hooks to engage said eyes, an operating handle connected with the hooks to control the simultaneous manipulation thereof, a eross-pieee from which said hooks are suspended, an operating cable connected with the boom and mov ably connected with the engaging har and with the said cross-piece which supports the hooks to cause simultaneous raising and lowering movement of the engaging bar and Cross-piece and any supported parts, and means to limit the movement 0l one of the Cross-piece and engaging bar part-s Whilst the other Continues to move to enable a relative movement between the batch boX body and its doors to take 4place for dumping ol' the box, all under the action of said Cable and other relative movement of the same character to cause a closing of the box by the action of said cable.
