Description

c. w. THOMPSON.
Cow-Milkers.
Patented Apr 21,1874.
W] T NE S S E S. Q mu Attorneys.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES WESLEY THOMPSON, OF OGDEN, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN COW-MILKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,106, dated April 2i, 1874; application led February 18, 1874.
To all whom it may coucewt:
Beit known that I, CHARLES W. THOMP- soN, of Ogden, in the county of Boone and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Milking Cows, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
.lhe nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a device for milking cows, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a side view, part in section, of my invention.
A represents a metal sleeve or collar of any suitable dimensions, closed at its upper end, and provided around said end with a circumferential flange, a. Through the closed end of the sleeve A project four tubes, b I), upon which are attached small rubber tubes d d. The metal tubes b b increase in diameter toward their outer ends, so that the rubber tubes will be held on the same without any exterior fastenings. In the outer end of each rubber tube d is inserted a silver tube, f, up to a flange, i, surrounding the same. B represents a large rubber tube slipped over and fastened to the sleeve or collar A, said tube being placed against the flange a, as shown. The four silver tubes ff are inserted into the holes in the cows teats and forced upward until the flanges t' come close to the lower ends of the teats. The flanges z' prevent the tubes j' from being forced in too far to injure the bag. The weight of this device stretches the teats to their proper length, and the tubes f, being in the teats, open the holes of the teats to the bag, which causes the milk to flow.
By the use of this device the cow will give more milk than in the ordinary inode of milk ing.
rIhe milker thus constructed may be sus pended by a strap across the cows back, and the ends of the strap attached to a ring or projections on the sleeve A.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the main flexible tube B, the interior metal thimble A, with shoulder a, the tapering metal tubes b I), with shoulders at their outer ends, and the flexible tubes ci and tubes fj', all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of January, 1874.
CHARLES WESLEY THOMPSON.
