I. O. KILEY June 24, 192436 TRAP Flled March 20, 1925 Patented June 24, 1924.
1 1,499,222. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISABEL o. RILEY, or JACKSONVILLE, rnomna.
Application filed use. 20, 1923. Serial No. 626,874.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, ISABEL O. KIL Y, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval and State of Florida, have invented cert in new and useful Improvements in a Trap; and I .do hereby declare the following to be a full, -clear,' and exact description of the inven- Another object is to provide a construc-- tion wherein a catching element is provided having a lateral flange adapted to be removably carried by a cover of the trap and held secured to the cover by a removable clamp lee plate, and with the cover and plate constituting reinforcing means to more rigidly mount and sup ort the catching member.
Additional 0 jects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanyin drawings illustrating one practical embo iment.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the trap;
Figure 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the trap; and
Figure 3 is a detail pers ective view illustrating the catching mem er, the trap closure and the clamping plate in disassociated relation.
Like reference characters designate like or similar arts in the different views.
In re ucing the invention to practice, a receptacle is provided as at 10 whichis of any suitable shape or size or material. Itis preferably made of metal and closed at four sides and one end as shown, thus leaving the other end open or exposed.
Cooperatin with the 0 en end of .the receptacle 10 1s a catching e ement 11. This element may consist of a conical tube made of any suitable material, preferably metallic gauze, and havin integral therewith or otherwise provide an attaching flange 12,
to provide a construction in and which,
edge or ump in order to enter the trapdisposed at its larger or entrance end. Its esca e end is smaller and designated 13. Sai end 13, it will be noted is disposed at a distance above the base wall of receptacle 10.
A closure for the open end of receptacle 10 is provided as at 13, and may be a metallic plate as shown having a continuous marginal flange at 14 for removable frictional telescopic engagement with the open end of receptacle 10. The closure 13' is adapted to removabl mount the catching member 11 and to this end has a central. openin 15 therethrou h to register with the bore 0 the cube 11. %he flange 12 is removably disposed -against the inner surface of the closure 13' and "conforms substantially in shape to that of the closure and has its marginal surrounded or bordered by the flange 14.
A clamping plate 16, for instance of metal, is adapted to secure the catchingelement 11 to the closure 13' removably. This plate is substantially the same shape as the flange 12, having an opening at 17 through which the tube 11 extends and being ofsuch size that its marginal edge will frictionally engage the marginal edge of flange 14 at the inner surface thereof.
It will thus be seen that the attaching elementmay be rigidly and removably secured to the closure 13.- Further'attention is calledto the fact-that as the closure 13 is removably telescoped with the receptacle 10, the adjacent edge of said receptacle abuts the plate 16, thus serving to more rigidly andeflectually secure attachingmember 11 to the plate.
In actual use, bait may be disposed within the receptacle, as suggested at 18 and may be for instance a small piece of bread and a small piece of onion. I have found that such material forms a good baitforroaches and that roaches will enter the tube 11 and fall or jump from the. end 13 into the interior of the receptacle 10 whereby they are captured. As the end 13 is space from the walls of the receptacle, particularly the bottom wall, captives cannot enter it in order to escape. c 4 Due to the fact that every part utilized in the trap may be separablyor detachably.
connected from the other parts, the trap may be readily cleaned as in boiling water, when desired.
As merely one practical embodiment has extending laterally from said tube, sard flange being rem-ovably disposed against said closure and bordered by said first mentioned flange, said closure having an opening communicating with the tube, a clamp plate having an opening through which said tu'begextends"engaging the second mentionedflan'ge on the opposite side to the closure and bordered by and in frictional engagement with-t the first mentioned flange whereby when the closure is applied to the .receptacle,'the first flange will be disposed in intimate contact with the adjacent portion of the receptacle.
In testimon whereof I affix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
