nurse STATES WILLIAM A. EOL QUIS'I', F LOS ANGELES, .1
WRIST 'i v" i Application filed December 221, 1832. serial No. sea
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. Hor- QUIST, a citizen of the United States, residin at Los Angeles, in the county of Los An- 5 ge es and State of California, have invented a new and useful Wrist Mirror, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices used for reflecting objects and occurrences rearwardly of the user.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a device that can be applied to the hand of the user in such a manner that by a suitable holding of the hand, while looking ahead, one may see and observe objects and occurrences in the rear.
Another object is to provide such a device, since preferably small, with a convex reflectin face, inorder to enlarge the reflection. %)ther objects will appear from the fol,-
lowing descriptionand appended claims aswell as from the accompanying drawings, in
which Fig. 1 is a face elevation of a mirror em- 95 bodyin the invention, a hand being illustrated m'dotted lines, showing the approximate proportions of the device.
Fig. 2 is an'edge elevation ofthe device in F1%; 1, the handle-portion of-the device roken away. A Fig. 3 is an edge elevation of the device at about ri ht angles to the illustration of Fig.
2, of a s ightly modified form, having 100 like members through which a strap may passed for attaching the device.
This device is of very broad utility. The driver of a vehicle, like an automobile, may with advantage use the device, while holding the driving or steering wheel, when 40 the hand ma in Fig. 1', or by stretching out the am, eventually obtaining a reflection of objects or occurrences back of his own car. A traflicpoliceman, while watchin the trafiic in one irection, may observe e traflic back of him. A pedestrian, or, in fact, any one who may have to be in heavy trafiic may protect j himself by a device of this ty The hand, illustrated in u Fig. 1, indicated at 4, shows the fingers tilt ng or manipulating the mirror.
' flexible material, as of cloth, or leather, in-
be in a position as illustrated e. dbtted lines in slightly bent in a position in which the hand may control a steering wheel of an automobile. The mirror 6 is provided with strips or band-like fastening or supporting membars 7, projecting from the rear side of the device, as illustrated in Fi 2, to a over the hand or arm of t e user. 311 see strips or bands may be of metal or any other similar springdike material, as of celluloid. The housing or frame of the mirror; may also be of metal or any other similar suitable material. A handle or manipulating member 5 is provided to facilitate. a point ing or facing of the mirror to a desired direction.
A man can, for instance, easily hold a .steering wheel firmly, and \still have a finger, or especially the thumb, free lf lor e handle-member 5 is-preferably sha ed and disposed to facilitate suchmanipu ating.
The slightly modified form, illustrated in Fig. 3, is provided with loop-like bands or members 8, allowing the use of straps of dicated at 9.
. It will easily be understood without further illustration that the device can be made attractive and light, in order to induce and allow ladies as well as men to make use of this invention, within the scope of the mvention.
The front face of the reflector, indicatedat 14, is preferably convex, slnce the. device, should be of small size. l'he attaching members. 7 may also be applied to a wri watch, either, to the front or rear.
Having thus described my invention, I- claim:
1. In a wrist mirror, a reflect' face, eonnectin means extending from e backpf the re ecting face adapted to hold the device to the hand of the user, and means extending sidewise from the device adzipted to form 0 crating means to allow a t mug of the device by one of the di%1ts of the'hand.
2. In a wrist mirror, a re ectmg member, connecting means of spring material extending rearwardl from the reflecting member having its en s lightly bent upon the contor portion and adapted to allow a quick ep; In testimony that I claim the foregoing as plying and removing and manipulating my invention I have si ned my name in the means ada ted to allows, change of reflecpresence of two subscri ing witnesses.
tion and vlsion through the reflecting mem- WILLIAM A. HOLQUIST. 5 Der by one of the digits of the hand to which Witnesses:
the device is applied while the hand of the O. H. KRUEGER,
user remains fixed in a certam position. JESSIE A. MANooK.
