To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, ALLEN N. GERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion, State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Chiropractor Bench; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and

exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to chiropractors benches, and has for its. object to provide bench, which will obviate the present practice of having patients rest their knees on 16 the floor and their head and shoulders .on a bench, for treatment underthe new posture position. The kneeling position above re ferred to requires thepatient to crawl on his knees to get in the many different positions for the various adjustments.

A further object is to providea chiropractors bench comprising ahOri /ontally disposed frame having a cushion. adjacent one end thereof on which the patient kneels, a head and shoulder rest supporting frame ad-- justable towards and away from the knee cushion of the frame and a vertically adjustable head and shoulder rest. The adjustable frame and head and shoulder rest allows adjustment of the device to the desired position for the particular adjustment.

A further object is to provide in combination with the bench a table on which patients may lie with their head and shoulders on the adjustable rest for the various adjustments. The table is particularly adapted for use in treatment of patients, who cannot kneel, for instance cripples or patients who are too stiff to get on their knees.

lVith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in be made within the scope of what is claimed the precise embodiment of the invention may Figure 4: is a top plan view of the table and a portion of the bench frame.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a horizontally disposed rectangular shaped frame of the bench, which frame is preferably supported on legs 2. The side bars 30f the frame are angularly shaped and have their flanges l horizontally disposed. One end of the frame 1 is provided with a knee cushion 5, on which a patientkneels while resting the head and shoulders onthe head and shoulder rest 6. It isnecessary to, adjust the head and shoulder rest 6, not only towards and away from the cushion-abut also upwardly and downwardly. To accomplish this resultan auxiliary frame 7 is provided,which frame is supported on casters 8, which'rest on the flanges 4-,whereby the frame 7 can be moved towards andaway from the cushion 5. Rockablymounted, in bearings of the frame 1 at one end thereof is a transversely disposed rock shaft ,9, theinner end of which terminates in a right angularly disposed arm 10, which has a link connection 11 with the frame 7. It will be seen that when the rock shaft 9 is rocked by the operator grasping the lever 12, the frame 7 may be easily and quickly adjusted in relation to the knee cushion 5, and consequently the head and shoulder rest 6 will be moved in relation to the cushion 5. Extending upwardly from the auxiliary frame 7 is a bar 13, which is provided with a bearing 14, in which the adjustable head rest bar 15 is slidably mounted, the lower end of which bar 15 is provided with a roller bearing member 16 which engages the bar 13 and allows the adj ustable bar 15 to be easily moved upwardly or downwardly with a minimum amount of power. Extending upwardly from the auxiliary frame 7 is a U-shaped frame 16*, to the transversely disposed portion 17 of which bearing members 18 are secured in which a transversely disposed rock shaft 19 is rotatably mounted. The inner end of the shaft 19 is provided with a downwardly extending arm 20, the lower end ofwhich has a link connection 21 with the lower end of the head rest bar 15. It will be seen that when the shaft 19 is rocked that the head and shoulder rest bar 15 may be moved upwardly or downwardly and consequently the rest 16 may be moved for adjusting the de vice to the patient or to the particular adjustment. Shaft 19 is provided with an oplIO crating lever 22, which lever is provided with a conventional form of dog 23, which cooperates with atoothed segment 24, for holding the lever in any position to which it may be moved. Lever 12 is held by means of a dog which cooperates with a toothed segment 26, for holding the frame in any position to which it may be moved.

From the above it will be seen that an ad justable chiropractors bench is provided whereby all the adjustments may be obtained, and that the present practice of having a patient kneel upon a floor and over a bench and crawl aroundto get in the proper posit-ion is obviated.

Referring to Figures 3 to 5 inclusive wherein the table is shown, the numeral 27 designates the table on which a patient may lie and 28 an adjustable abdomen supporting shelf detachably connected thereto. The shelf 28 has pivotally connected thereto at 29 downwardly and inwardly inclined arms 30, which arms are provided with spaced notches 31 adapted to receive the transversely disposed rod 32 for holding the shelf 28 in various positions. The shelf 28 is provided with brackets 33, which brackets are provided withnotches 34 for receiving pins 35.

lVhen the table is used for patients who cannot kneel, the table is placed over the knee rest end 5 of the bench and the patient lies thereon with his head and shoulders onthe rest 6, that is after the shelf 28 has been adjusted. It will be seen that the device may be easily and quickly adjusted for treating a patient in a lying or reclining position.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A. chiropractors bench comprising a horizontally disposed frame, a knee rest carried by one end of said frame, a horizontally movable auxiliary frame mounted on the first mentioned frame and antifrictionally supported thereon, said auxiliary frame being movable towards and away from the knee rest, a transversely disposed rock shaft carried by the first mentioned frame, an arm carried by said rock shaft, a link connection between said arm and the auxiliary frame and a lever carried by the rock shaft, a head rest, said head rest being mounted on a vertically movable and guidable bar mounted in bearings of the auxiliary frame, and means carried by the auxiliary frame whereby said guidable bar may be adjusted upwardly and downwardly.
