- J. POSTAL SOAP DISH Filed May 29. 1922 mv ENTOR Jacofilasial ATTORNEY BY '6 fM Patented June 16, 1924.
JACOB POSTAL, OF NEW YORK, N.
Y., ASSIGNOR TO UNITED WIRE GOODS MFG. 00., OF
NEW YORK, N. Y.
SOAP DISH.
Application filed May 29,
To all whom it may concern 'Be it known that I, JACOB POSTAL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan,
county and State of New York, l1aveinvented a certain new and useful Improvement in Soap Dishes, of which the following is a specification. r -This invention relates to an improved 1 soap dish or analogous receptacle and has particular reference to articles of this character which are constructed of enameled wire. It has been heretofore proposed to provide means whereby such asoapdish or receptacle may be hung or suspended between the spaced faucets of a sink, bath or laundry tub. Of such devices, the patent to'Reigger, No. 950,559 of March 1st, 1910, discloses an example. It will, however, be
observed that the suspension means or hangers for the tray are pivotally connected to. the opposite sides or ends thereof. It is not possibl to enamel these pivotally movable hangers and so connect the same 26 to the tray that the enameling will not be broken. After a short period of" use the enamel cracks and breaks off from the contacting portions of the relatively movable parts so that the dish or tray presents an 30 unsightlyappearance. It is, therefore, the primary object of my present improvement to provide such a dish or receptacle provided with means for hanging or suspending the same between spaced faucets and having all parts of the receptacle itself, as wellas the hangers, enameled.
More p articularly, the present invention provides hangers suitably connected to opposits sides or ends of the dish and which maybe properly adjusted in accordance with the space between the faucets without liability of cracking or breaking the enamel. Incidentally,- I provide hangers for the dish or tray which are so constructed that the individual hangers provide means which serves as a holder Or supportfor a tooth brush, nail brush or the like.
- lVith theaboveand other objects in view, the present invention consists in the improvedsoap dish or receptacle as will be hereinafter more particularly described, illustratedin the accompanying drawings and 1922. Serial No. 564,310.
subsequently incorporated in the subjoined claims. i
In the drawing wherein I have shown several preferred embodimentsof the inven-v tion and in which similar reference. characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the improvedsoap dish Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail. perspective view showing the manner of connection of'one of the hangers of the tray or dish; Fig. at is a fragmentary side elevation illustrating a slightly modified form' of hanger, and y Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective view showing still another alternative construction. A
In the embodiment ofthe invention illus,- trated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings, the dishor tray which may be of any desired or improved shape, preferably, though not necessarily, includes a marginal frame wire 5 As hereinshown, this. frame is .of rectangular formin plan'and ajplurality of equi-distantly spaced transversely eX- tending .wires 6 have their end portions angularly bent and welded or otherwise per.- manently fixed at their extremities to the underside ofthe frame wire 5. Spaced longitudinally extending wires? are disposed beneath and in contact with the wires 6 and also have their end portions upwardly extended and welded to the ends of the framewire 5. The wires 6 and 7 are preferably of less diameter than the frame wire 5 It will be understood of course, that the dish or tray proper which I havejust de scribed .may be of any desired depth and may be utilized as a holderor receptacle to receive a bath sponge, brush: or other articles as well as a soap cake.
The dish or receptacle is adapted to be detachably mounted and suspended between spaced faucets by means of two; pairs of hangers 8 which are respectively secured to the opposite ends of the dish inthe following manner. Each hanger is formed from a single length of wire one end .of which is angularly bent, as at 9. Adjacent to the bend in the wire said wire is engaged with the marginal frame 5 so that the end portion 9 extends outwardly in parallel rela-' tion to the wires 7 and at its extremity, engages the sid portion of the frame wire 5. At the point of cont-act of the hanger 8 with the frame 5 the two wires are securely welded or otherwise permanently fixed to each other. I have referred to the hangers 8 as being fixed to the opposite ends of the dish or receptacle frame, but it is to be considered as within, the scope of the present invention to fix these hanger wires to one of the wires 6 if so desired.
The hangers 8 project laterally from the ends of the dish or receptacle in parallel relation to each other, and each of the hanger wireshas its intermediate portion formed into a transversely elongated loop or coil 10 spaced from the end of the marginal frame5 and projecting outwardly towards the side of the dish. From the inner sides of thesecoils 10 the free end portions of the hanger wires are upwardly extended and formed into the open loops or hooks 11 which are adapted to be engaged around the upper portions of the water faucet as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The hooks 11 of each pair of hangers at opposite ends of the tray or dish are disposed at opposite sides of the upwardly projecting hub or casing of the faucet in which the valve cock is housed.
.-All parts of the wire dish as well as the hangers 8 are enameled, thus materially add ing to the attractive appearance of the article. ,y By providing a rigid or fixed connection between the hangers and the receptacle, breaking or cracking of the enamel will be obviated. At the same time, however, owingto the provision of the yieldable loops or coils 10 in the hanger wires, thesehangers may be adjusted as indicated iii-dotted lines in Figs. 2 and 3 so that the hangers on opposite ends of the receptacle can bespaced apart for the distance necessary in order to enable the hooks 11 to be properly engaged with the spaced faucets. In this adjustment of the hangers, the enamel covering the hanger wire is vnot broken, as it possesses suflicient elasticity to permit. of the slight variation in the angular positions of the hooks 11 which may be required.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a slight modification wherein each hanger is provided with two of the elongated loops or coils 10 which will permit of a more extensive adjustment of the suspending hooks.
In Fig. 5, another alternative form is illustrated wherein the loops or coils 10 v are disposed in vertical planes instead of being horizontally arranged as in the other embodiments of the invention.
In each form ofthe device above referred t,o, the loops and the hanger wires, in addition to their function of permitting of the angular adjustment of the suspending hooks 11, provide convenient means for supporting or holding a tooth or nail brush or similar article. c
From the foregoing description considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, manner of use and several advantages of my improved soap dish or receptacle will be clearly understood. It will be seen that the essential feature of my improvement resides in the provision of the faucet engaging hangers which are adjustable relative to the body of thedish or receptacle and are so connected th reto that the enameling covering the ,metallic wires will not be cracked or broken. This idea might, of course be carried out in practise by various other alternative constructions than those to which I have particularly referred and it will therefore be understood that the privilege is reserved of resorting to all such legitimate modifications in the form, proportion and arrangementof the several parts as may be clearly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim: 1
