This invention relates to latches especially designed for use on automobile doors, it
being more particularly a continuation in part of my co-pendingallowed applicationv filed Feb. 16, 1921', Serial No. 445,397.
Oneof theobjects of the invention is to. provide a latch which can be applied-readily' to a door and its casing `and which, b rea-4 son of its peculiar construction, wil pre,- vent the. door from vibrating either hori-` zontally or vertically and also serves as an eiicient lock or fastener for holding the door securelyl in closed position. l Heretofore, in order to prevent side vibration and the noise resulting therefrom it has been the practice to provide cushions and, in order to eliminate vertical vibration and the consequent noise clasp springs have been em loyed.
t is an object of this invention to eliminate the supplemental attachments.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the comination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of'what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without de parting from the spirit of the invention.

Thls ,keeper comprises a block `'1 preferably hollow, as' shown in Figure 4: and theouter or active face of which is provided',` with a shallow V- shaped recess 2 gradually increasing in depth from the base ofthe block toward the opposed face thereof as indicatedY by dotted lines in Figure 1."
An attaching flangey 3 is extended from the` base ofthe blockA and is adapted to be secured tov the wall of the doorv opening G by screws 4 or other fastening devices.
Another flange 5 is extended in the oppositev direction from 'the base o-f. the block 1 and has oppositely extending ears 6 fastened .by
screws 7 or the like toLthe wall of the opening C. The flange 5 extends ast the ears' and is provided at opposed edges with ears 8 extending perpendicularly to the flange 5 and constituting bearings or a rollen 9.
^ The lock in the door B can be ofthe usual type having a spring bolt. The bolt 10 in the present instance, however, has its inner face beveled as at 11 and extending to a blunt* point l2 at the free end lof the bolt while the other end ofthe beveled face is preferably mer ed into a rounded seat 13. A. portion of t e back face of the bolt is provided with opposed bevels 14 so that 6o F gure 1'0 is a plan View of the .keeper VV as indicated at 15 in Figure G for en ageetv By referring to Figures 1, 2 and' it will be noted that when the door is moved to- Ward its closed position the concave seat '13 will rst come against the roller 9. By then exerting .a pressure against the door the beveled face 11 of the bolt will ride over the roller and cause the bolt to be dedected baclrvvardly or retracted so that its oint will ride over the roller as shown in igure 2. When' the door assumes its closed position the bolt will pass over the roller and `will sprin outwardly into the space between said ro 1er and the block 1, the seat 13 and the beveled laces 1t of the bolt entering the recess 2 and pressmg we. y against; the `Walls thereof. 'll us it will be seen that the door will be held securely closed and cannot open accidentally when subjected to 4outward pressure. Furthermore the wedging of the bolt between the roller and the inclined walls of the tapered recess 2 will hold the door from. vibrating in any direction and producing objectionable rattling noise. A

While there has been shown a keeper secured 0n the Wall of the door opening G it is to be understood that it desired this keeper can be arranged `Within a mortise in said Wall,- ii' the conditions make such an arran ement advantageous.
ln igures 9 to 14: inclusive there have been shown other forms of the structure constituting the present invention', these diterent forms being desio'ned for use in connection with cars of diderent constructions. For example in Figure 7 there has been shown a keeper formed in a single length of metal bent to provide side wings 16 connected at one end by a cross member 17 as shown While projecting inwardly from the other end of the Wing at thebaclr edges thereof are ears 18 which preferably abut as shown in Figure 8. Obviously instead of having the ears in turned as shown in Figure 8 they can be' outturned'as shown at 24: in Figure 9. Ur, if desired, the connecting portion 17 can be dis nsed with entirely and a dat plate 25 suc as shown in Figures 11 and 12 can be used, this plate having side ears 26 ont-V standing therefrom for supporting a roller 27 therebetween.
