Description

Patented June 1G, 1924.
PERCY M. SMITH, OF ."BUSl-INEL-L, ILLINOIS.
ADJUSTABLE COLLAR BUTTON.
Application led August 4, 1923. Serial No. 655,614.
To all whom t may concern.:
Be it kno-wn that I, PERoY M. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bushnell, in the county of McDonough and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Colla-r Buttons, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to adjustable collar buttons and more particularly to an improved button which may be attached to the neckband of a shirt or waist so that the neckband may be adjusted to properly fit the neck of the wearer. l
The primary ob-ject of the invention is to provide a colla-r button of this character which may be adjustably connected to one end of the neckband and which will be adapted to be buttoned to the opposite end of the neckband thus permittingl the wearer to adjust the button at any point on vthe neckband so that the latter may be shortened or lengthened to properly tit the neck.
Other objects of the invention will appear upon consideration of the following detailed description and accompanying drawing in which:
Figure l is a front elevation of the device showing it applied to a neckband,
Figure 2 is a plan View of same,
Figure 3 is a back view, and
Figure 4L is a cross section on the line -l-Ll of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the plate 1 is relatively narrow and substantially rectangular in form and is longitudinally curved to conform to the curvature of the neckband of a shirt or waist. Projecting laterally from the plate l is the button which includes the button shank 2 and the head' of conventional form. At the back of the plate, a pin 4 is hingedly mounted and this pin comprises the shank 5 provided at one endV with a pintle 6 receivable in the sockets 7 so that the pin may freely swing. The opposite end of the pin is pointed and is receivable in a notch 8 when the pin is applied and in position.
When the neckband is too long to properly t t-he neck of the wearer, the pin will be applied to one end of the neckband at a point which will cause the button to engage the button-hole on the opposite end of the band so that the neck band will snugly fit in a comfortable manner. The button of course will be disposed in a position to readily engage the button-hole in one end of the neck band and may be utilized in the usual manner to secure a collar on the neckband. When the neckband is too short, the pin may be moved to the eXtreme end of one end of the neck band and the opposite end engaged by the button. In this manner an adjustment may be made so that the wearer may be assured of a comfortable tit of the neckband around his nec-k.
Minor changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
What I claim is:
l. An adjustable. collar button for the neckband of a shirt comprising a curved plate conforming to the curvature of the neckband, a button including a shank eX- tending laterally from the plate and having a head on its free end, a pin comprising a pin shank having a pintle rigidly secured to one end, means on said plate topivotally receive the ends of said pintle, the opposite end Aof the pin being pointed, a notch in the said plate to receive the pointed end of the pin, the said plate being` elongated and substantially rectangular whereby longitudinal adjustment ofthe plate on the neckband may be made by the pin to vary the position of the said button.
2. An adjustable collar button comprising, in combination with a neckband of a shirt or other garment, an elongated rectangular plate of a width less than the width of the neckband and longitudinally curved to conform to the curvature of the neckband, a. button comprising a shank laterally projecting' from the said plate and equipped with a head at its free end, a fastening pin comprising a pin shank, a pintle rigidly carried by one end of the shank, sockets carl ried by the plate to receive the'ends of said pintle where-by the pin may lbe movably mounted, and means to receive the opposite pointed end of the pin.
In testimony whereof, I have aixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
