Another object of the invention is the provision of a rotary pump having a novel construction and arrangement of im ller vanes and guide vanes, whereby irect radial passages for the fluid passing through the pumpare provided and reaction against the direction ofrotation prevented. Another object of the invention is the provision of a novel arrangement of im peller and guide vanes, whereby all foreign matter passing. through the pump may be forced through the passages thus provided, before said vanes entirely pass one anotherw. With the above and other objects in view, the 'nvention further includes the following novel features and details of construe tion, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring in etail to the drawings and more especially to Figures 1 and 2, the invention is shown as mmprising a casing 10 which is mounted upon a suitable base 11 and which is provided at one side with an intake 12 and at its bottom with a discharge it Mounted in suitable bearings and extend= ing transversely of-the casing 10 is a shaft M, upon which may be mounteda pulley or other wheel 15 shaft 14;.
Mounted upon this shaft 14: is a rotor or impeller, which includes vanes 16, the said vanes being spaced apart and formed to provide radially extending passages 17 to provide for rotating the having substantially parallel walls so that I the width of the passages will be substan daily the same throughout their length.
The outer edges of the vanes it are beveled as shown at 18, the said bevel being relative to the direction of rotation of the vanes 10 as shown by the arrow. The amount of this bevel depends upon the deflection from a tangent to the periphery of the impeller, while the vanes are moving through a distance equal to the distance between two consecutive vanes. i
Surrounding the impeller and disposed concentrically are spaced guide vanes l9, the' spaces between these vanes providin substantially parallel passages 20, wit which the passages 17 are brought into register .during the rotation of the impeller. The outer ends of the passages 20 are 0& set or inclined with respect to their lengths, as shown at 21, so that the fluid passing W therethrough' will be deflected in the same direction, irrespective of the direction of I rotation of the impeller. By beveling the outer ends of the impeller vanes and the inner ends of the guide vanes, free passage of liquid through the vane passages is provided. In, other words, no shoulders or abutments are present across the ad a= cent ends of the vane passages to impede the passage of the liquid as the impeller vanw rotate across the passages between the guide .van'es.
The number and length of the vanes 16 andlg may vary. the lengths of the vanes and the width of the passages provided between them depending upon the size and character of the pump. The length of the vanes 16 and 19 may be relatively varied that is, the vanes 16 may be shortened an the vanes 19 lengthened, and vice versawhile the length of the combined passages 17 and 20 will remain substantially the same for a pump of a given character.
As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2,, the guide vanes are arranged substantially parallel tothe direction of rotation of roe impeller, while in Figures 3 and- 4, these ide vanes which are indicated at 22 arelnclined and are arranged in double formation, being se arated bya partition 23. This permits of t e passage of foreign matter from the impeller passages into the guide vane passages, before the impeller and guide vanes pass one another.

1. A pump comprising a'housing having inlet and outlet ports, a rotor operating within the housing, spaced vanes carried by the rotor, s acedstationary-vanes disposed concentrical y around the rotor carried vanes; all of said vanes being arranged to provide passages of substantially the same width throughout their lengths and said rotor carried vanes being beveled inwardly at their outer ends in the same direction as their direction of rotation.
