10, 10, is provided with a cover member or metallic.V plate 15, preferably somewhat in the nature of a channel, which has one longitudinal edge bent or flanged outwardly as shown at 16 to extend parallel and flush with the flange 11 of the side wall plate 10, while the other longitudinal edge 17 is bent or flanged outwardly to extend parallel and flush with the flange 11 of the end wall plate 10.

The intermediate portion of the corner member 15 is preferably disposed tangentially to or across theend wall and side wall planks 5, namely at an obtuse angle to the

16 and 17 thereof; and this intermediate portion of the cover sheet or plate 15 is therefore of width sufficient to extend across the angle or space left by the non-meeting outer surfaces of the side wall planks 5 and the end wall planks 5. The

16 and 17 of the cover member or plate 15 are preferably removably secured to the flanges 11 of the side wall and end wall plates 10,L respectively, by means of suitable bolts and nuts as shown at 18 or rivets if desired; the flanges 11 of plates 10 and the

16 and 17 of plate 15 being provided with registering holes, in order that the cover plate may be easily put into place andremoved.

The ends of each side and end wall plank are preferably bolted or secured to the respective members or plates 10 as shown, thereby securelyfastening the ends of the planks.

1n the event that either a side wall plank or an end wall plank is to be removed and replaced, it may be readily accomplished by simply removing the intermediate cornerpost member or cover plate 15 after removing the bolts and nuts 18 or rivets, as the case may be, thereby freeing the ends of the planks and permitting them to be` slid through the opening intermediate of angle post plates 10, namely through the space or opening covered by the post member or plate 15 after the respective bolts 14 and other fastening means at various points in the planks have been removed. y

It is also apparent that the flanges of the respective plates, aside from providing a convenient manner of securing the plates together, also constitute reenforcing ribs for thercornerfpost and therefore provide a very rigid structure which can be easily applied andalso readily removed when occasion requires.

The construction shown I believe to be the simplest embodiment of my invention, which has been described in terms employed merely as terms of description and not as terms of limitation as structural modifications are possible and may be made without, however, departing from the spirit of my invention.

What 1. claim is 1. In a car having outer side and end wall planks, a lcorner post comprising a vertically Ydisposed plate adapted to be secured to the side wall planks adjacent to the ends thereof, with one longitudinal edge of the plate being bent outwardly, a second plate secured to the end wall planks adjacent to the ends thereof, one longitudinal edge of the plate being bent outwardly, the bent longitudinal edges of said plates being in spaced relation, and a third plate of width substantially equal to the spacing between the first two mentioned plates, the longitudinal edges of the third plate being bentto extend flush with the bent edges of the first two mentioned plates and being removably secured thereto.

2. A corner post of the character de scribed adapted to lap about the side and end wall planks of a car body, comprising a plurality of plates having outwardly. disposed longitudinal edges, one of said plates being secured to the outer side walls of the car, while the other plate is secured to the outer end walls of the car, with the adjacent longitudinal edges of the two plates arranged in spaced relation, and a channel plate arranged intermediate of the two plates with the longitudinal sides of the channel plate removably secured to the outwardly disposed edges of the first two mentioned plates.

3. 1n a car body provided with side and end wall planks disposed lengthwise of the sides and ends of the car body in superposed relation, corner posts composed of three metallic plates disposed from top to bottom of the car body, with one plate secured to the side wall frame structure of the car in lapping relation with the outer surfaces of the side wall planks and having an outwardly disposed longitudinal edge, the second plate being secured to the end wall frame structure of the car in lapping relation with the outer surfaces of the end wall planks and having an outwardly disposed longitudinal edge, the two plates being spaced from each other, while the third plate has both longitudinal edges disposed outwardly and is disposed diagonally to the sides and ends of the car, intermediate of the first two mentioned plates with its longitudinal edges secured thereto.

5. In arailway car having side wall planks and end wall planks disposed, respectively,

the superposed end wall planks with one longitudinal side thereofdisposed outwardly, the outwardly disposed longitudinal sides of the two plates being spaced apart so as to permit passage of either the side wall planks or the end wall planks lengthwise therebetween, both plates being removably secured, respectively to the side wall planks and the end wall planks, and a third plate having an intermediate portion of width substantially equal to the spacing between the longitudinal sides of the rst two mentioned plates and outwardly bent longitu dinal edges adapted to extend flush with the outwardly disposed sides of the first two mentioned plates and be removably secured thereto.
