Description
H. 1. BUSH.
n it PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY J. BUSH, OF VVESTFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT lN WHIP-STOCK COVERINGS.
Spcciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,571., dated April 14, 1874; application-filed February 27, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY' J. FUSE, of Westfield, of the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Whip Stock Goverings; and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specication and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section, of a portion of a whipstock provided with my new or improved covering.
In carrying out my invention, I interweave in helices about the stock A, both laterally and longitudinally, afine metallic wire, a, and a series of threads or bands, b. lhe part of the vstock to be protected by the woven covering is first to be covered with a ground, c, of gold, silver, or tin foil, or paper with a metallic covering.
From the above, it will be seen that for the usual spun thread, wound helicallyT transversely around the stock, I have substituted a iine metallic wire, and arranged the woven cover upon a metallic ground, the whole, when nished,
causing the stock not only to present a brilliant metallic appearance, but to have a strong and durable4 covering.
The longitudinal helices of thread have the wire interwoven with them, it first going underneath one, and next over the neXt one, the succeeding coil of the wire going over the iirst and under the second.
, The covering, as described, has great advantages over the thread covering.
I claiml. As a new manufacture, a whip-stock coverin g composed of a metallic wire, a, and a series of woven threads, b, laid in helices, and interwoven about the stock, as set forth.
2. As a new manufacture, a whip-stock cOv- A ering composed of a metallic ground or foil, c, as described, and a metallic wire, a, and a series of threads, b, laid in helices, and interwoven about such ground and the stock, all substantially as specified.
HENRY J. BUSH. Witnesses:
