Description

GUN CLEANER Filed Feb. 1, 1924 ATTORNEY reamed e3" re.
from the gun,
um "H" JQHN A. FEAGIH, OE EQMEEEY, AEAEZA.
can cnnearaln Application filed February 1, ma. eria1 ne. ceaeea.
v To all it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. Fnaom, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Montgomery, in the county of Montgomery and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gun Cleaners, of which the following is a specification: This invention contemplates the provision of a shot gun cleaner, wherein use is made of a projectile adapted to be fired and which projectile embodies a disk of suitable material and of a size to scrape the barrel of the gun for the purpose of loosening and cleaningthe burnt powder and rust from the barrel, the said disk being disposed immediately in advance of the cleanmg element in the nature of a wad of cotton or other suitable relatively soft material which wipes the wall of the barrel and coats the latter with oil with which the cleaning agent is moistened.
It is the purpose of the invention to provide a gun cleaner of the above mentioned character constructed to be sold at a very nominal cost, and designed to be very efiective for the purpose intended, and one by means of which the gun can be cleaned in quick order as compared with the present day method of cleaning guns.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the cleaner constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the 7 line 33 of Figure 1.
the she 10, Arranged upon this support cleaning a gun.
' 11 is a cleaning element 12, which as above stated is in the nature of a cotton or other suitable relatively soft material which surrounds the support 11, and a little larger moistened with oil, so as to coat the wall I of the bore incident to the cleaning thereof. Arrangedupon the end of the support -11 is a scraper 14, the latter bein in the form of a disk which is or a iameter slightly larger than the diameter or the bore of the barrel of the gun. This scraper may be constructed from any suitable material but is preferably formed from wire, and is arranged in advance of the cleaning element 12 for the purpose of loosening theburnt powder or rust from the wall of the bore, so that this dirt or foreign material can be carried out of the barrel by the cleaning element 12 when the projectile is fired. Manifestlyfl have devised a means whereby a gun can be cleaned in a comparatively short time, eliminating all of the trouble incident to the use of oil, cleaning rods and rags usually employed for the purpose of en again the device is designed to render it very efiective for the urpose intended, and its construction is such that it can be manufactured {and sold at a very nominal cost. It is of course to be understood that the articles can be made to permit of their use in rifles as well as shot guns.
in a is believed that from the fore may be resorted to when desired as fall? within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
1. A prbjectile of the character described includin a shell, a supporting member fitted within the shell and projecting from one end thereof, a cleaning element of relatively soft material surrounding said support at a point between the ends thereof and adapted to be moistened with oil, and a scraper arranged in advance of the cleaning element and arranged upon the outer end of the supporting member for the purpose specified. v
2. A device for cleaning the barrel of a shot gun or the like, said device comprising a shell, a supporting member having one end fitted Within the shell and the other end projecting therefrom, a scraper in the form of a disk arranged on the exposed end of the supporting member, and of a di- 10 ameter to efi'ectively contact the Wall of the bore of said gun, and a cleaning element arranged upon the supporting member and constructed of relatively soft material surrounding said supporting member and of a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of said bore, said cleaning element being adapted to be moistened with oil for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
" JOHlg A. FEAGIN.
