Description

D. W. CLANCEY.
Dental-Burring Engines.
N0 149 442, V PatentedApril7,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL OLANGEY, OF GIN GINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT lN DENTAL BURRlNG-ENGINES.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 149,442, dated April 7, 1874; applicaiion filed December 16, 187$.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, D. W. CLANGEY, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a Reciprocating Attachment to be Applied to a Dentists BurringEngine, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to hold and propel a dentists file or other instrument used in the practice of dental surgery for cutting away and polishin g tooth surface, gold-or other filling in the same, by means of a reciprocating movement.
Figure 1 in the accompanying drawing represents a perspective view of the instrument when closed and ready for use, showing the end of shaft A, designed to connect with the motive power; also, the reciprocating shaft G, to which the object-holding file or other instrument may be attached; also, showing under-cut shoulder and flan ge-pin 1', together with thimble K, holding cover 1 securely in its place. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of all the parts connected, and showing their relation to each other. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the side, the cover I being removed.
The shaft A passes through a journal in shell H, and is fastened to pinion B, which is adjusted to gear-wheel 0, their planes being at right angles, so that, by rotating shaft and pinion 13, it causes wheel 0 to revolve around pin 0, and move connecting-rod D and reciprocating shaft E G, which are connected to wheel 0 by crank-pin d and connecting-pin e. The part E of reciprocating shaft is square, to prevent it from turning, and has bearings in a corresponding slot. in shell H; and the part G corresponds to and passes through thimble K, which is held in place by being screwed onto the shell, at the same time overlapping and holding the cover at the-end, all of which is shown in the accompanying drawing.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a reciprocating attachment to dental engine, the combination of the shaftA and its pinion with the gear-wheel O, pitnian D and its connections, and the tool carrying shaft G, all as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In combination with the case containing a reciprocating mechanism, the cover I with the under-cut shoulder and flange-pin, as shown.
D. CLANCEY.
