. ATTACHMENT FOR LAMPS.
Application filed February 25, 1921'. eel-m ne. 447,766.
To all whom it may concern: A
Be it known that I, l lunnnr M. Gamer, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the countyol New Haven 5 and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Lamps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to attachments for portable lamps, and in particular to a simple device which is adapted to be assembled with the base of a lamp, and to provide for supporting the lam either from a nail or screw, or a longitudinal rail such as the head 1 rail of a bedstead.
The invention in its broadest aspect comprises a longitudinal member having means for detachably fastening it to the base of a portable lamp, and having provisions for disconnection from the lampwhen desired. The device in question consists of a strip of metal, or other suitablematerial, which is provided with two inwardly projecting clips suitably spaced apart and arranged to engage with an inturned flange at the bottom portion of the base of the lamp. The strip is provided with a key-hole slot at one end which may either be passed over a pin or screw projecting from the wall of a room, or
may be detachably engaged with a hookshaped member, which is adapted to support the lamp from a horizontal rail, rod, or the like.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure 1 shows in side elevation a portable lamp of the type to which the present invention is applicable;
Figure 2 is a view illustrating the device attached to the base of a lamp, and ans cured to the said. base, a lamp socketand switch 7, lamp bulb 9, and a shade 11, which latter may be supported from the lamp bulb by any suitable means.
As illustrated in Figure 2,- the hollow base 3 ,of the lamp has an intnrned flange 4:. The detachable lamp suspendingdeviceof the present invention is composed of a strip of metal, or other suitable material, 13, having at suitably spaced points thereon two inwardly projecting clips 15, 15, which may be riveted tothe strip. These clips are spaced apart a suitable distance so that their upturned ends may fit within the flange 4c of the lamp base, when the device is snapped into position, as shown in Figure 2, the strip 13 then lying in a plane which is coincident with the lower face of the base. The
upper end portion of the strip 13 is provided I with a key-hole slot 14 which is adapted to slip over a nail or screw 20, thus suspending the lamp in a horizontal position from the wall of a room, or other vertical surface, as shown in Figure 2.
The alternative suspending device is com prised in the hook 17, shown in Figures 3 and 5. This hook is shaped to fit over a suitable pipe rail 100, or other longitudinal support, and at its shank is provided with a headed rivet or stud 19 which is adapted to enter the lar e circular portion of the keyhole 14, and slide up into the narrow portion 14 of said slot, in which position the head of the stud 19 will overlie the slot 14 and hold the hook securely to the plate 13. When the hook 17 is thus applied to the plate it becomes in effect a continuation thereof, and as shown very clearly in Figure 3 may serve to support the lamp base trom a horizontal rail or pipe, as 100.
What is claimed is:
1. An attachment for lamps comprising a longitudinal strip provided with spaced inwardly extending clips for detachably engaging the concealed inwardly bent flange of the base of a lamp at opposite points of said base, said strip having an opening adapted to pass over a nail or screw.
2. An attachment for lamps, comprising a strip provided on one face with spaced inwardly extending clips adapted to engage within the head of a hollow lamp base at diametrically opposite points, said strip being of a length to extend beyond one side of the'base, and provided in the extended portion with a slot to pass overa projection.
3: An attachment for lamps comprising a longitudinal strip provided with means for detachable engagement with a flanged h0llow lamp base, and a hook constructed and arranged to be detachably connected with said strip for supporting the lamp from a horizontal member.
t. An attachment for lamps comprising a longitudinal strip provided with means for detachable connection with a lamp base, a key-hole slot in said strip, and a hookshaped supporting member provided With a stud for detachable engagement with said slot.
5. An attachment for lamps comprising a longitudinal strip provided with inwardly HUBERT M. GREIST.
