son, in the county of Carter and State of Oklahoma, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lug Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a lug holder and has for its principal object to provide a simple and efficient means for use in connection with holding a lug of an underreamer while the same is being dressed and having been removed from the fire.

Another important object ofthe invention is to provide a lug holder of the above mentioned character, which is of such a construction as to enable various forms of lugs used in underreamers to be held by the holder and in a manner which will not injure or otherwise deface the lug while the same is being worked upon, previous to using the same in an underreamer.

A still. further object of the invention is to provide a lug holder which is provided with means for positively holding the lug in a rigid position while the lug is undergoing the necessary treatment such as dressing the same and isalso provided with means for enabling the person using the lugholder to hold the same in a convenient A further object of the invention is to provide a lug holder of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong. durable and further well adapted for the purpose for which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same Figure 1 is a side elevation of my lug holder.

In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numerals 1 and 2 designate generally a pair of pivoted cross levers. The lever 1 comprises an elongated member which has its forward end enlarged as shown at 3 and which gradually tapers rearwardly to form a reduced portion or handle 4. The enlarged portion 3 is furthermore provided with the vertically extending cutout portion 5 adjacent the forward end of the lever and the purpose of this construct-ion will be hereinafter more fully described.

The forward end 3 is furthermore provided with the. channel 6 which forms a substantially U-shaped jaw or section as more clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. The sides of the channel member 6 have their base portions provided with inwardly extending flanges 7 the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully described.

The lever 2 is somewhat smaller than the lever 1 and the handle portion 8 thereof is adapted to extend over the top face of the handle portion 4 of the lever 1 in the manner as more clearly shown in the drawings. The forward end of the lever is provided. with a downwardly extending portion 9 which is adapted to be received in the vertical cutout portion 5 provided in the enlarged forward end 3 of the lever 1 and the lower end of the downwardly ex tending portion 9 extends beyond the face of the lever 1 and terminates into a substantially flat jaw 10.

For the purpose of pivotally supporting the downwardly extending portion 9 of the lever 2, I provide a transversely extending pin or bolt 11 which acts as a pivot for pivotally supporting lever 21 on thei lever 1. The pin 11 is furthermore adapted to support a suitable auxiliary handle 12 in a manner as more clearly shown in the drawings. The free end of the handle 8 of the lever 2 is furthermore provided with a cutout portion in, the form of a wedgeshaped slot 13 and this slot 13 is adapted to receive the free end of the locking chain 14 which is secured at 15 to the top face of the handle on the lever 1 for the purpose of holding the lever 2 in a locked position with respect to the lever 1.

As the lugs adapted to be held in my lug holder are of the usual construction found in connection with underreamers, it 18 not thought necessary to go in, detail as to the construction of the lug, it being sufli cient to state that all of the lugs wh ch are used in conjunction with the underreamers are provided with the rounded outer surface so as to. enable the same to lit properly in the channel portion of the U-shaped jaw 6. flanges 7 furthermore act as guides for the lugwhen the same is inserted in the channel portion of the J-shaped jaw 6 and there IS no possibility of the lug/becoming dis- -figured or otherwise defaced when held in the. lug holder as would result it the lug were held between a pair of blacksmith tongs as now used for this particular purpose,

From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved apparatus, it will be seen that l have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention, and while I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or sacrilicii'ig any of the principles of the invention.

What I claim as new and desire to by Letters Patent is l. A lug holder of the class described comprising a pair of pivoted crossed leversthe jaw formed at the forward end of one of said levers being channeled to, provide a substantially Ushaped jaw in transverse section, the jaw of the other lever being substantially flat, and means for holding said levers and i being aws in a locked position.

2. A lug holder of the class described comprising a pair of pivoted crossed levers, the jaw formed at the forward end of one of said levers being channeled and substantially U-shaped in cross section, the sides of said channeled jaws provided with the in wardly extending flanges at their lower ends, and the jaws of the other lever being substantially flat;

3. A lug holder of the class described comprising a lever provided with a vertical cutout portion adjacent the enlarged forward endthereof, said enlarged forward end being further provided with a channeled jaw U-shaped in transverse section, the second lever having its forward end provided with a downwardly extending portion em tending through said vertical slot and pivot a ly suj'iported therein. and a substantially flat jaw formed on the lower end of said downwardly extending portion and adapted to cooperate with said channeled jaw.
