ELECTRICAL CQNNEGTING THUG.
, Application filed June 8,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GARL- KRAFT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the county, city, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrical Connectin Plugs, the complete specification of whic is as follows.
The plug to which my invention particularly relates is the two conductor plug commonly used in establishing electrical connection in communicating systems of all kinds.
Plugs of this type are common but my invention discloses two features, separate and distinct from all plugs used at present. First, T have invented a plug involving nothing other than so called screw-machine parts. Secondly, I have added an 7 adjustable feature enabling the user to adjust the plug to suit the individual jack. The second feature is quite important for T have found that regardless of the make of jack, irregularities present themselves.
I have appended an illustrative sheet showing two preferred embodiments of my invention. In these figures like designations refer to like arts.
Fig. 1 shows a nil sectional elevation of one type of my plug connector in its simplest form.
Fig. 2. shows an elevation of the same plug.
Fig. 3 shows a section of the same type of plug with the feature of the adjustable sleeve added. 7
In Figure 1, A represents an insulated cylindrical handle havin an orifice B capable of accommodating t e connecting wire used in these devices. The metallic bodyK is a solid of revolution, as is the handle. The body K constitutes what is commercially and technically knownas the sleeve I The so calle -,55'1, in threaded contact with rod 0, which 1 rod-is an integral The s oulder may be omitted since I the plug of the plug. The sleeve is one of the connecting surfaces. The sleeve K is in threaded contact with the handle A, as shown. The inner diameter of the sleeve K contains an insulating cylinder M, having a shoulder buttin against the inner face of the slegvpi.
n shoulder if the insulating included as ofierates without the cylinder fits properly. The washer N may in sdme cases be an integral art of insulating cylinder tip connection is made by t ip partof the disc H. The
M. the said insulating handle,
1922. Serial No. 566,260.
disc H is metallic binding post D The binding post D 1s drilled to provide a cord binding orifice G, sothat tension on the connecting wires wil not injure the electrical connections. The sleeve contact binding post E is insulated from the disc H by the insulating sleeve I but is in threaded engagement with the sleeve t'ace at J. The set screws F are provided in the binding posts so that all electricalconnections may be secured.
In Fig. 2, like figures refer to like parts. The arrangement is obvious and shows the plug in external appearance.
In Fifi. 3, A represents the insulating handle, t rangement for adjusting the distance from the surface S to the tip of the plug. The adjustment is made to accommodate the plug to the jack with which the plug 'is used. Then the handle A is screwed down locking the adjustment by pressure at T. The surface It may be knurled if desired. I
In Fig. 1, in place of the smallshoulder L a knurled shoulder may be used but I have not included this inv the illustration because the plug shown is the simplest type.
It is-to be noticed that each and every part of my device may be readily made on a -screw-machine.. That is, bodies A, H, D, F, E, M, N, K, and P are essentially solids of revolution and not stampings or cast ings. This tact is one of the salient features of my invention since it greatly facilitates rapid and inexpensive manufacture. the second feature of 111% invention which I have just disclosed is t e adjustable sleeve lenh.
' aving I claim and what I desire to secure States Letters Patent for is:
A two conductor electrical plu connector composed entirely of screw mac ine parts, the parts constitutin a main insulating handle and an assem led plug connection, said handle being a solid of revolution known as a screw machine product, and being so turned as to accommodate the connecting wires in one end and the electrical plug assembly in the other, which electrical plug assembly is in part composed of a threaded sleeve contact connection engaging which contact sleeve is a solid of revolution and drilled to accommodate an insulating cylindrical sleeve, which insulating sleeve is so conthus described my invention, what United and is drilled to hold the I he sleeve and R a lock screw arj "Ito accommodate an structed as to reach from the extreme outer end of the contact sleeve in front to apoint a short distance behind the rear face of the contact sleeve, in the orifice of which insulating sleeve is a metallic screw machine product constituting part of the tip connectian, which consists 01 a flat cylindrical disc, a 5haft integral with said disc, the disc being drilled in one location to receive a binding'post connection and drilled in another insulating bushing while the shaft is threaded to accommodate the metallic tip and an insulating washer, said fiat cylindrical disc supporting a metallic binding post into which binding post is drilled one orifice for accommodating the I connecting Wires and a second orifice for ac commodating a holding cord, the first orifice I 1,4ea,tco
being provided with a set screw, both binding post and set screw being screw machine parts, in the second opening in said fiat cylindrical disc there bemg an insulatin bushing and a binding post screwed into te metallic sleevc connection, both binding post and bushing being screw machine products, over which sleeve connection is provided a locking arrangement for adjusting the distance from the end of the sleeve to the shoulder of said sleeve.
In witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my name this 5th day of June, 1922.
CARL KRAFT.
