This invention relates to a mechanismadapted for use in levelling and drawing one.

More specifically, with this invens tion, it is contemplated that after a mold has been formed in the box, said box is to be moved over the mechanism of my invention which. may be moved upwardly to engage against the under side, of the mold and which contains structure whereby the upper or table portion of the mechanismmay automatically conform to the under surface of the mold plate. Then said table is locked against movement and afterward lowered to.

It is a primary object and purpose of thepresent' invention to make a mechanism of this character with which molds may be quicklyand easily withdrawn from the boxes in which made, without injury to the mold. A further object of the invention is to construct the mechanism so that it can be-very expeditiously expenditure of energy, th samebeinghand operated and repeatedly so'that ease of operation is a very valuable feature; A still further object is to construct the mechanism simply and economically, and at the same time insure accuracy in operation and durai bility in service.- These and various other,

At its upper end, post 18 is enlarged and formed with a socket, as indicated at 22 for the reception of the lower portion of a ball 23, integral with which a short post 24 is formed which extends upwardly and to which at its upper end a table 25 is attached. A cap 26 is placed against the upper end of post 18 and over the ball 23, the post 24;

The under side of the top of the cap is formed with an inclined cam surface 29 as best shown in Fig. 6.
A ring 31 is located under the cap and between it and the. ball 23. On its upper side it is formed with an inclined cam surface 32, the ends of which lie one above the other and are joined at a vertical shoulder as indicated at 32. The under side of the ring around the opening therein is formed with a recess 33 shaped to fit the upper portion of the ball. An operating handle 34: ex-
tends from the ring through a slot in a 7 side of cap 26, it being evident that by turning the ring through operation of thehandle, it may be clamped against the upper side of the ball 23, thereby locking the ball and attached table 25 against movement.
A sleeve 35 is rotatably mounted on the post 1 above sleeve 3 from which a supporting arm 36 projects, the same being divided at its outer portion to make a fork between the parts of which the mold box 37 is rotatably mounted, trunnions 38 on the box seating in properly formed socket bearings 39 atfthe ends of the forks. In filling the mold, a plate 10 of special design, the con- 7 struction of which forms the subject matter of a separate application for patent Serial Number 454,192, filed March 21, 1921; is clamped against the upper sideof the 'box 37, which is turned over from the position shown in Fig. 1, and the sand entered into the mold'box through said plate. After this operation is completed, the mold box is turned over to the position shown in Fig. 1, being'held therein by a movable locking pin 41, and then swung to position directly above the table 25, which is in its lower position. The clamping ring 31 has been struction conforms to the under side of the plate automatically, as is obvious. lVhen in firm contact with the plate 40, handle 3 1'is operated to clamp the ball 23 against movement, thereupon fixing the table 25 against movement. the box 37, handle 12 again grasped, the latch 13 drawn from the teeth 17, and the post 18 and table 25 lowered, drawing the mold carried on the plate from the box. Of course, with the type of mold shown, in which piston cores, such as indicated at 4-2 are formed from green sand, a specially constructed mold or core box is necessary, and one has to have certain operations performed therewith before the mold is free to be withdrawn, formed prior to lowering the table. This, however, is no part of the present invention, the special construction of the box being subject matter for a still further application for patent Serial Number 443,7 38, filed Feb. 10, 1921. After lowering the post 18 and attached table 25, the box 37 is swung out of the way and the plate 10 and mold carried thereby removed from the table, it being many times advisable to release the clamping means at t so as to swing the table to proper position so that the plate and mold may be taken direct from the table to a truck or gravity conveyor for transportation of the mold to any desired place in the foundry, so as to receive the cover or cope to complete'the mold, and then to'the pouring floor. It is evident that the mold shown in Fig. 1 for the production of pistons forms the drag of a completed mold, adapted to have a cope placed thereover. After removal of the plate 40 and mold thereon, the table is swung back to its original operative position, the clamping ring 31 released, and is thus ready for a repetitionof the operation for a succeeding mold.

I claim:
1. In combination, a support including a vertically positioned sleeve having a casing at one side thereof, a toothed disk rotatably mounted in the casing, an operating handle extending from the disk through a slot in the casing, interengaging means on the handle and casing for holding the handle in any position to which moved with respect to the casing, a post vertically mounted in the sleeve and provided with rack teeth at one side in mesh with the teeth of the disk, said post having a ball socket at its upper end, a ball seated in the socket, a short post projecting upwardly from the ball, a table connected with the upper end of said short post, a cap provided with an inclined cam under side attached to the upper end of the first post over the ball, said short post passing through the upper side of the cap, a clamping ring located between the upper side of the cap and the upper portion 01": the ball, said ring having an inclined cam upper side and a concaved recessed lower side fitting the ball, and a handle attached to the ring and passing through a slot in the side of the cap for turning the ring whereby the table may be clamped in fixed relation to the first post, oifreed for oscillatory movement about the vertical axis of said post, substantially as described.
2. In combination, a support including a vertically positioned sleeve, a post mounted vertically therein, means to raise or lower said post, said post at its upper end having a ball socket, a ball seated in the socket, a short post projecting upwardly therefrom, a table attached to the upper end of said short post, and releasable means for clamping the ball against movement with respect to the first post, substantially as described.
3. In combination, a vertical supporting post, a sleeve rotatably mounted thereon, an arm projecting from the sleeve and terminating at its free end in a second sleeve, means for releasably clamping the first sleeve to the post, a second post mounted vertically in the second sleeve, means for raising and lowering said second post, means for releasably holding said second post against downward movement, a table mounted'for limited universal movement at the upper end of the post, and means to releasably lock the table in fixed relation to said second post, substantially as described.

ably mountedon the first post above the first sleeve, a forked arm projecting from the second sleeve, a mold box carried at the outer ends of said forked arm, a table mounted at the upper end of the second post for limited universal movement, said table being adapted to come against the under side of the mold box on upward movement of the second post automatically conforming to said under side of the mold box, and means to lock the table in fixed relation to said second post after conforming to the under side of the mold box, said locking means being manually operable and releasable at will, substantially as described.
6. In combination, a support including a vertically positioned sleeve, a post mounted vertically therein, means to raise and lower the post, means to releasably hold the post against downward movement, a ball socket formed at the upper end of the post, a ball seated in said socket and provided with an upwardly projecting short post, a table attached to the upper end of said short post, a cap attached to the upper end of the post over said ball, and manually operable means between the cap and ball and operatively engaging the same to releasably lock the ball against movement with respect to the post, substantially as described.
7. In combination, a support, a post mounted vertically therein, means to raise and lower the post, means to releasably hold the post against downward movement, a ball socket formed at the upper end of the post, a ball seated in the socket, a short post projecting upwardly from the ball, a table attached at the upper end of said short post, a cap attached to the upper end of the post over the ball, the short post passing through an opening in the upper side of the cap, a ring shaped to engage against the upper portion of the ball around said short post, and a handle attached to the ring and extending outwardly through a side of the cap, said 'cap having aslot in its side for the passage of the handle, and said ring on its upper side and the cap at its adjacent portion being formed with cooperating cam surfaces whereby the ring may be tightened against the ball on rotative movement of the ring in one direction and released therefrom on rotative movement in the opposite direction, substantially as described;
8.
