Description
H.- E. LEPPERT ELECTRIC SWITCH Filed June 27, 1922 ifi l-l 'J- DEWEY @h NEW BREZEAXIZS', QZENKEQ'E'EEIGWT, ASSIGHOR TO THE TRUMBULL implication Zhiiic 2?, 2 .3255.
'1? all whom it may some? Be it known that 1, Essay E. Lnrrsu'r, a citizen of the United States of America siding New Britain, (lounecticnt, have invented 2 new and usei ul Electric Ei-nvitch of which the following is e specification.
lily invention relates particularly to What are commonly termed Wall switches. The main object is to provide convenient means for grounding the frame of the switch.
Another object is to provide a convenient and neat method of positioning the parts of a toggle or lover switch in face plate.
i is uside view and partial section of a toggle switch embodying the improvements oi my invention.
l 2 is it front view of the 53.1116
Fl" 3 is a perspective View showing the various novel elements of my invention.
a side view and partial section the invention g. s pier. View and part al section t plane of the line 5--5 i? 1g, l.
'- .ltches usually provided with sing body or receptacle 7 and a face switch mechanism which may be ole form is carried in some suitframe 9. A i ch mechanism 10 of the s 11 in i? 1g, 5 handle or operating lever ll. may be to the switch mechanism in any Suit ole such lever being pivotelly carried instance in cars 12-12 of the frame 9.
A. ring 13 is secured for instance by means of lugs is to the frontof the frame 9.v This ring has a central opening 15 to permit it to be slipped on over tiehandle ll. A split cover piece 16 is adapted to be slipped on over the shank of the handle 11 and it is preferably provided with e boss 1'? adapted to fill in the sides oi the opening 15. The ring 13 is adopted to fit in the opening 18 of the face plate 8 so as to give an attractive finish when the ports disassembled.
A. yoke offer-d2; seats for screws 2G which hold the l ce plots piece. This yoke has a central opening 21 adopted to receive the ring 13. Prefeisblyflthe edgzges 0: 2 this'opening are roughened'or provided with. teeth. 2&5 so as to furnish a sharp means of connec i; with the 13 end time efiiciently electricelly .coniiiiect the switch train-c the 01? EIMtIIEl'i/"ILLE, SONNEGTICUT, A GOE- iicrh-nl 573,302.
While I have thus for described a preferred form of construction, it should be obvious that l: contemplate that changes may be made and even that parts such as the cover piece 16 may be omitted and that parts may be combined witl'lout departlng from the spirit or scope of my invention.
i l hen the'lever 11 is pivoted in the frame 9 the piece 16 may be readily slipped in place and then the ring 13 applied and the lugs let bent over lVhen the yoke 19 is applied the jaws 2:2 yieii and slide on over the ring 13 establishing an intimate contact therewith and thence to the face plate 8 when that is in place: i
The switch mechanism is preferably assembled as a unit as is more clearly described in my (to-pending application after which the cover piece 16 and the finished lacquered ring 13 may be added to the unit which is then secured in position in the base.
ihe yoke 19 is then forced over the lac ouered ring 13 and preferably twisted or turned so that the roughened edges or teeth of the yoke may cut through the lacquer on the ring and establish an electrical ground-- ing connection with the switch unit. The
end and having arms at the sides of saidlever a fsce lete and means for electricall connecting said fisce plate and said cover pieoe.
2. In as electric switch an insulatio a switch frame mounted therein member moo, ,ted in said trains,
a cover member surrounding said operating member and a split yoke yieldingly and electrically connected to said cover member.
3. In an electric switch, an insulating housing, a. switch. frame mounted therein, an opera ting member mounted in said frame, a cover member surrounding said operating member a split yoke yieldingly connected to said cover member and a face plate electrically connected to said yoke.
1-. In an electric switch. a housing, a switch frame mounted therein, an operating member, a ring surrounding said operating member, and a yoke having: teeth yieldingly engaging said ring.
5. In an elect"- switch, an insulating housing, aswitch irame secured thereto, an operating lever. a cover ring surrounding said lever, and a resilient yoke detachably embracing said ring.
(3. In an electric switch, a frame, an op erating lever carried thereby, a slotted cover piece at the side of said lever, a ring holding said cover piece in place. a yoke yieldingly engaging said ring and a face plate connected to said yoke.
7. In an electric switch, a frame, an op erating lever, a slotted cover piece on said lever and having a boss, :1 ring surround ing said lever and embracing said boss 8. In an electric switch, a frame. an operating lever, a cover piece on said lever and having a boss, :1 ring surrounding said lever and embracing said boss and a yoke yieldingly electrically engaging said ring.
9. In an electric switch, a traine an opcrating member carried thereby, a rim: cmbracing said member and a split yoke having' teeth engaging said ring.
10. In an electric switcln a tame, a piv oted lever, a resilient split yoke, and means interposed between said yoke and said frame for grounding said frame through said yoke.
11. In a switch constructimi, an assembled frame and switch contacts and operating lover, a face plate ring having a central openin for said lever, and a forked plate having a. boss at the sides of said lever in said openin 12. In an electric switch, a frame harii 0 1. a front piece and lugs, a. lever pivotal mounted in said lugs and extending through said front piece, a forked cover supported on said front piece with its arms at, the sides of said lever and a face plate ring surromidin; said forked cover'and secured to said front piece.
13. As an article of n'ianuiacture, a yoke for connecting the insulating housing oi": a flush type switch to a front plate and having yielding side arms with sharp teeth for electrically engaging a metallic part of the switch mechanism and grounding the same to the face plate.
