Description
April 1 1924. 1,489,111
H. G. BLACKSHEAR PIN Filed 0G13. 16, 1922 Za/CShea/KQVENTOR Patented Apr.. l, 1924 UNITED STATES inseln HENRY G. BLACKSHEAE, OF LESLIE, GEORGIA.
PIN.
Application led October 16, 1922.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY G. BLACK- sHEAn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leslie, in the county of Sumter and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pins, of which the followingl isa specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wrist pins, for connecting the connecting rods with the pistons of internal combustion motors, .the general object of the invention being to provide means for taking up wear on the pin.
Another object of the invention is 'to form the pin in sections with means for holding shims between the sections so as to increase the diameter of the pin and thus take up wear.
rIhis invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, 'to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my :invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a sectional view showing the pin in position.
Figures 2 and 3 are detail views of the pil itself.
As is well known the wrist pins l which connect the pistons 2 with the connecting rod 3 are subject to wear where they engage the walls of the holes in the pistons, these walls also being subject to wear, so that after a limited use the pins must be removed and new ones substituted. In carrying out my invention I form the pin of two sections 4 Serial No. 594,889.
and 5 and place shims 6 between the sections to make the pin of the proper dimensions so as to take up wear. rlhe sections are connected together by the pins 7 engaging holes 8 and I form holes 9 in the shims for receiving the pins.
F rom the above it will he seen that when the pin on the piston wears so that the pin is loose in the piston it is simply necessary to remove the saine and place shims between the sections thereof so as to increase the dianfieter of the pin and thus take up wear.
The wrist pin is made of slightly less diameter at its center than at its ends so that the unworn part of the pin which engages the connecting rod will pass through the holes in the piston after the shims are added.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is l. A wrist pin of the class described formed insect-ions and means for holding a shim between the sections.
2. A wrist pin of the class described formed of sections, a pin and recess for holding the sections together and shims placed between the sections and having holes therein for receiving the pin.
3. A wrist pin of the class described formed of a pair of sectionsj pins on one section engaging holes in the other section and shims placed between the sections and having holes therein for receiving` the pin.
In testimony whereof I alix my signature.
HENRY Gr. BLACKSI-IEAR.
