Be it known that l, ARTHUR 1V. HAHN, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at News VYork city, county of New York, borough of lilanhattan, and State of New York, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Brushes, of which the following is a full. clear, and exact specification.

hiy invention relates to brushes and refers particularly `to brushes suitable for cleaning bottles and similar containers.

ln the proper interior cleaning of bottles and similar Containers, it is essential that every portion of the inner face of the container be reached by the brush bristles The greatest 'difficulty is experienced in reaching and completely cleansing the angle formed by the side and bottom of the container, in which portion undesirable ingredients of the liquid within the container are most liable to settle and collect, and as the bottle of such containers are frequently inwardly convex, this angle can not be reached b-y the ordinary brush.

It is'evident, therefore, that a brush particularly suitable for the cleansing of this angular portion of the container, should have some means as a portion thereof which can be readily inserted in every portion of such angular part.

My device accomplishes this purpose in a most efficient manner.

I so arrange my brush element that there will be extended from the end thereof a portion of the bristles maintained in such a manner that this particular portion of the brush will be a definite member having greater stiness than other portions of the brush and thus capable of being inserted into every portion of the angle and, because of its stiffness, will remove all matters which may have been deposited therein.

ln the modifications of the device of my invention, shown in the accompanying drawings, similar parts are designated by simi lar numerals.

Figure 1 is a back view of one form of' the device of my invention.

Figure 2 is a section through the line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a back viewl of a modified form of the device of my invention.

Figure 4 is a section through the line 1 -Li of Figure 3.

The particular formof the device of my invention, shown in Figures 1 and i2, comprises a handle portion, or back, yhaving the straight portion 10, the inclined portion 11,

the portion 12 approximately parallel to the 30 portion 10, the inclined portion 13, the portion 14 approximately parallel to the portion 10 and the portion 15 approximately at right angles to the portion 14. The portion 15 has an opening 16` therein, the por- 65 tion 10 is extended into the loop 17 and the portion 11 has an opening 18 therein.

The brush portion of the device comprises core 19 composed of twisted wire strands,

the end 20 of which is passedfthrough the 70 hole 18 and bent overthe back portion 11 thus forming a fastening, or anchoring, means. The core 19 carries a plurality of bristles 21 forming a brush.`

The other end portion ofthe core 19 with 75 anchoring, this portion of the brush member.

The above described construction spaces the brush core from the back, thus allowing the brush to take advantage of any resiliency possessed by the core when the brush is in operation. While the core may be in abutment upon the back, I prefer the described form.

The described construction, due to the hole 16, causes a portion of the bristles 23 to extend from the end of the device with the bristles held in stiffened condition with respect to each other.

1n the modification of my device, shown in Figures 3 and 4, the back portion 12 is extended upwardly and then at right angles 24, the right angled portion 24E having an opening 25 therein. The back portion 12 has an opening 26 therein, the portion 27 of the back 12 being turned up to act as a fastening means. v

1n this modified form, the brush core 19 is anchored in the hole 18, the other extremity being passed through the hole 25, inserted through the hole 26 and fastened therein by forcing the member 27'tliereon to form an anchorage.

In the last described modification, as in the first described form, the construction causes a portion of the bristles 23 to extend from the end of the device with bristles held inhstifened condition with respect to each ot er.

It will thus be seen that when my device is inserted within a bottle for cleansing purposes, the main portion of the brush bristles may be employed upon the inner ace of the bottle sides, while the bristles 23 can be employed upon the bottom and lower edge of the bottle, the stiened bristles being particularly adapted for reaching every porftion of the angle formed by the side and bottom or' the container.l i

The ease and economy of construction or my device is evident in that the entire brush member is one piece and is readily attached to the back by anchoring the two ends thereto9 thus overcoming the labor and expense incident to having the side brush and the end brush or" separate elements I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number or arrangement of parts as shown and described, as these are given simply as a means for the clear description of the device of my invention.y

What l claim is 1j In a brush, in combination, a back havi ,esageriing one end portion extended at approximately right angles and having an opening in the angular portion, a twisted bristle carrying core having an end portion passing through the opening and having its two ends anchored with the bristles carried radially by the core, a plurality of the bristles extending outwardly through the opening.

2. ln a brush, in combination, a baci; having one end portion extended at approximately riglit angles, having an opening in the angular portion and a plurality of open'- ings intermediate of the angular portion and 'the other extremity of the back, a twisted bristle carrying core passing through the angular member opening having its two ends passed through the intermediate openings with the bristles carried radially by the core, a plurality of the bristles extending outwardly through the opening.
