This invention relates to mountings and particularly lto a mounting `for hoists or l0 other machines which is adapted to be bolt-v ed down toa dat surface, such as the platform of a mine car, stone boat or other vehicle or an a timber structure or support, so that it sh l have the capacity of oscillation ll about its perpendicular axis. o l
Small air driven hoists, for instance, of which the so called little tugger isa well knownexampleare used for man y lifting, hauling and handling jobs. Miners use $0 them in arvariety of ways, clamped to va'- rious forms of supports for lowering, rais-fY ing, hauling dragging, and numerous other purposes. hey are also used, among other places, on board ship, in structural steel 2l work, in manufacturing and4 power plants and 1n fact in every placevwhere a small compact powerful unit is desired.
In using such hoists or in fact in usino` almost any machine adapted to be mounted 80 by means of clamps, occasions arise in which it becomes necessary or desirable to-change the operative position or adjustmentof the device in the working plane. Y

A swivel X, forms a part of the mounting, but also, necessaril ,becomes a part of the hoist or other mac ne to be mounted. This swivel X includes a circular cone base Y and a plate Z.- The hoist or otherm'a'- chine a; Iis bolted t9 the plate -Z by bolts b passing through holes 'd in the plate Z and the cone base Y ilts within the undercut semi-circular recesses E and J of the members D and G respectively, and rests upon the base plate B.. It will be noted that the hoist a extends laterally beyond the swivel Z and its cone base Y. The hoist a extends also laterally over the greater part of the baise plate B.
For the sake of accessibility, the ears U are located a convenient distance beyond the lateral limit of the hoist a and the bolts" P are made correspondingly long to extend through the ears U, so that, the nuts V may beturned without the use of a spe ial wrench. This arrangement adds to the fa; cility with which the hoist a'inay be adjusted on the base B.
