Be it known that l, Gnoncn C. Binner, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Chester, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Household- Boiler Connection, of which the following is a specification.
' My invention relates to new and useful improvements in a household boiler' connection, and has for its primary object to provide a single connection or fitting from which a number of circulating pipes, a disc iarge pipe and a supply pipe are connected with the boiler making it unnecessary to pr vide the usual two or more openings in the boiler. v
ln the usual construction of boilers of this character one opening is provided for the discharge pipe, another for the supply pipe and ofttimes a third one for the return pipe or the water circulation which naturally weakens the hot water boiler and adds considerable expense to its manufacture.
These disadvantages are entirely overcome bymyinvention as it is only necessary to provide one opening at the top of the boiler in addition to the one at the bottom for the water circulation there is only one other opening necessary by which my fitting is secured to the boiler for connection with a plurality of pipes. lilith these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
ln order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, l will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, in which Fig. 1, is a side elevation of a hot water boiler and three heating devices connected therewith by my improved boiler connection.

In carrying out my invention as here embodied, 2 represents a hot water boiler of any well lrnown or desirable construction, 3 a heating device here shown conventionally as a hot air heater, 4 is a conventional showing of a gas heater and 5 is a similar showing of a Stove or laundry heater. lt, is to be understood that any other form of heating device may be substituted for any one of those shown and each includes a well known water heating element, such as a coil or water back.
At or near the bottoni of the hot water boiler is located a fitting 6 with which are connected the lead-in pipes 7, 8 and 9 leading to each of the heating devices 3`, il: and 5 respectively and if found desirable to this fitting may also be connected a drain cock 10.
To the top of the hot water boiler 2 is attached my improved boiler connection or fitting 11 by means of the stem 12 which has a passageway 13 therethrough to form a communication between the hot water boiler and the interior of the connection or fitting. Passing through the stein 12 is a distributing pipe 14 the lower end of which terminates in close proximity to the bottom of the hot water boiler when the device is in place while the upper end of said pipe is threaded into the internally threaded stem 15 the passageway 16 of which is of smaller diameter than the passageway 13 in the stem 12 so that a space of considerable capacity remains between the walls of the stem 12 and the pipe 14.
The boiler connection or fitting is pro- 1sided with a number of other stems preferably four in number and designated by the numerals 17, 1S, 19 and 20. YVith one of these stems, as 17, is connected a return pipe 21 from one of the heating devices, as 2, while a return pipe 22 leads from another of the heating devices, as et, to another the fitting stems as 18 and a third return pipe 23 is connected with the other heating device, as 5, and with another of the stems of the fitting, as 19.
The cold water supply pipe 2lis connected with the stem 15 so as to communicate with the pipe 111 but not with the interior of the fitting 11 and a discharge pipe 25 is connected with another of the fitting stems, as 2O leading to the fixtures, such as faucets, which control the discharge of the hot water from the hot water boiler.
The different pipes may be connected with the boiler connection or fitting in any snitable or well known manner but what seems to be the most practical way is to externally thread each of the stems of the fitting whereby a union nutV 26 may be screwed thereon in a manner similar to that shown in Fig. 3, said nuts engaging the flanges or collars of the pipes to hold them in place.
The operation is substantially as follows On lighting any one or all of the heating devices the temperature of the water within their heating elements will be raised and set up a circulation through their return pipes to the boiler connection or tting 11 and then through the passageway 13 in the stem 12 into the upper portion of the boiler while at the same time the colder Vwater at the bottom of the boiler will pass through the iitting 6 to the return pipes and then into the heating elements of the heating devices. Whenever any water is drawnfrom the boiler it will pass through the passageway 13 in the stem 12 to the interior of the tting and then through the discharge pipe 25 and as this Water is drawn off an equal amount will enter through the supply pipi"- 24 and the distributing pipe 14k with which it communicates, being discharged at or near the bottom of the hot water boiler.
When only one or two heatingdevices are connected with the hot Water boiler the stems of the boiler connection fitting not in use are closed by suitable caps and likewise the unused stems of the fitting 6 may be closed or a itting having a less number ot' stems may be substituted for the iitting G shown and above described, such iittings as these being in common every day use. To prevent syphoning a vent 27 is formed in the pipe 14.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the eXact details of construction as herein shown as these may be varied Within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is 1. The combination with a hot water boiler and a plurality of heating devices of means for connecting a lead-in pipe with each of the heating devices, arboiler connection secured to the top of the boiler one stem oit said connection opening into the boiler, a distributing pipe of smaller diameter than the interior of the stem connected with the boiler passing through said stem and con-V nected with a stem directly opposite the iirst named stem, said pipe leading to a point ad* jacent the bottom of the boiler, a supply pipe Y system including an upright boiler, a pluV rality of heating devices, lead-in pipes connected to the lower end of the boiler and each connected with a separate heating device and a return pipe also connected'with each heat ing device, of aboiler connection having a plurality of stems and mounted'on the upper end oi said boiler by means of one of said stems, a `distributing pipe attached at its upper end to a stem directly opposite the one by which the boiler connection is attached to the boiler and projecting through said boiler attaching stem and terminating adja cent the lower end of the boiler, said distributing pipe having a diameterV appreciably less than that of the boiler attaching stem to produce a passageway about said distributing pipe directly communicating with the upper portion of the boiler, a cold water supply pipe connected with the same stem through which the distributing pipe is attached, a discharge pipe attached to another of the stems, and means for attaching the return pipes to the other stems of the boiler connection.
