COMBINED FOLDING MAP AND TOURISTS GUIDE. i
Application -led April 2, V1923. Serial No. 629,380.
To all whom z't may concern.
Be it known that I, IRVIN M. VARNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boise, in the county of Ada and State of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Foldin Maps and Tourists Guides, of which the ollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined folding map and tourists guide.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a simple advertising novelty which combines Va plurality of maps and other information valuable to the tourist and a device which may be readily attachedvl to the windshield of an automobile sol as to have the ma s in constant view of the traveler for rea y reference. Another object is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture andone -utilizling the maximum of space with a minimum amount of room.
A still further object is to provide means whereby a plurality of advertisements may be superimposed one upon theother, which ads may be readily viewed by the user.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent dur-lng the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawin s forming a part of this specification, an in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my-device attached to a section of an automobile windshield,
Figure 2 is a plan view of my device showmg the same 1n opened position,
.Figure 3 is a cross-section taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the urpose of illustration 1s shown a preferred embodiment of rmy invention, the numerals 5 and 6 refer to Vblanks of paper of substantial thickness, which blanks are i laid across each other as best shown in Figdesignated by the numeral 11, whilethe numeral 12 designates the usual upper section of the windshield.
A curved portion 13 serves to further secure. the wire 7 between the overlapped blanks 5 and 6. It is of course understood that these overlying sections are cemented or otherwise secured one to the other.
When the device is opened, as shown in vFigure 2 it will be noted that pads 14, 16, 17 and 18 are secured to the end portions 21, 2 2, 23 and 24 of the blanks 5 and ,6. -While a pad 19 is secured to the center portion of the section 6.
These pads may take the form of single sheets or the sheets may be secured together so as to form a small booklet, having advertising matter thereon. When the four ends, 21, 22, 23 and 24 are folded over and upon each other so that the device presents the appearance shown in Figure 1, it will be noted that a map 26 is presented to view, which map'may be printed or otherwise placed on the back of the end 24. It is of course understood that a similar map is formed upon each of the ends 21, 22 and 23, while the space which abuts the windshield may be reserved for the advertising matter ofthe producing company or the donator of the map.
In use the device is hung upon the windshield, as indicated in Figure 1, with one of the ends folded outwardly which presents a map. The tourist can then-proceed over the roads indicated on this map without beconiing confused and thereby avoiding much delay. Should the tourist desire to secure information relative to the section through novel and also exceedingly useful to the tourist.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes in theshape, size and arrangement of parts may be rej@ A.
