Be it known that I, James I. DEPEW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Loup City, in the county of Sherman and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Power Hammer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to power hammers or the like, and aims to improve the construction as set forth in my Patent No. 1,076,554, granted October 21, 1913.
The primary object of the invention is to provide novel means for securing the dies in their supports, the securing means being such as to prevent lateral movement of the dies with respect to their supports.
Another object of the invention is to provide a machine wherein the movements of the movable die supporting arm may be cushioned, to relieve the power hammer of undue strain.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details-of construct-ion hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of What is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a power hammer constructed in accordance with the invention.
Extending laterally from the arm 14, are the lugs 18, which lugs are formed with cut out portions to accommodate the securing bolt 19, which is in the form of a U bolt, the ends thereof being threaded to accommodate the nuts 20. As shown these lugs 18 are disposed in planes directly above the cut out portion 16, so that when the bolt is positioned, the side arms thereof will overlie the ends of the die 17, as shown by Figure 1.
In order that the die will be held against movement, one wall of the cut out portion 16 is formed at an angle as at 21, so that When the securing bolt 19 is properly positioned, a wedging action is set up between the die and wall of the cut out portion in.

Located at the rear of the table 5, are bearings 22 in which the shaft 23 moves, a pulley 24 being secured to one end of the shaft by means of which power may be applied to the hammer, through a belt and power device, not shown.
This shaft 22 is provided with a central off set portion on which the bearing 25 is mounted, connecting rods 26 having connection with the bearing 25 at the lower ends thereof while the upper ends have connection with the spring connecting member 27 that has its upper ends connected with the cross arms 28, as through the rods 29. Thus it will be seen that as the shaft 23 rotates, vertical movement will be imparted to the arm 1 1, to the end that the dies supported at the opposite end of the device, will be brought into cooperative relation with each other.
While I have described the means for securing the upper or movable die within the out out portion of the arm 14, it is to be understood that I employ the same structure for securing the lower die, which is mechanism'being such as may be controlled by movements of the footlever 81.
Having thus described the invention, whatis claimed as new is:
