ATTORNEY. x
Patented d, 1924.
SAMUEL S. ALBER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
VANITY CASE.
Application filed December 9, 1922. Serial No. 605,847.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. ABEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New- York,-have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vanity Cases, of which the following is a specification.
, This invention relates to metallic receptacles and the like andparticularly to that class of article holders for receiving'cosmetics.
The primary object of my invention is the construction of a convenient and useful-container. or receptaclev wherein a plurality of compartments are provided to receive different articles such as cosmetics, cigarettes or money including a removable mirror constituting a closure for one of the compartments.
One of the objects of my invention is the provision of a container ofthe character above'specified consisting of two connected sections, one of which is adapted to receive a plurality-of articles such as face powder, rouge and an artificial coloring pencil and the connected section being provided with a cigarette receiving compartment concealed by a removable mirror, all of which forms a compact, novel and convenient device.
Another and continued object of my invention is the construction of a combined cosmetic case wherein the parts are extremely snnple 1n construction, easily assembled,
highly efficient in use, designed to be con: structed of various grades ofmaterial, ex-- tremely novel and otherwise capable of being manufactured at an extremely low cost whereby its commercial possibilities are greatly enhanced.
I accomplish the above objects and others which will become more apparent as the description proceeds and when taken in'connection with the accompanying drawings,
' 5, 6, designates the front and side walls of a substantially rectangular case which may be constructed of stamped or pressed material such as aluminum, tin, or sheet metal, the said case having rolled or curved edges indicated at 7 and provided with a bead 8 above the upper edge thereof. Within'the case, I have provided a powder and powder puff receiving compartment 9 of substantial depth, adjacent to which a smaller and sec ond compartment 10 for receiving rouge, for instance, is provided and common tovarious types of vanity cases. Disposed to one side of the compartment 9, a clip 11 is positioned to receive an. artificial coloring pencil 12 such as a lip stick or eye brow pencil, or any common cosmetic. Hingedly connected to the case 13, I have provided a lid or closure designated in its entirety by numeral 14 which is substantially of the same size, and shape as the case above referred to. The sides 15 of said closure are of substasztial depth and constitute a cigarette or money receiving compartment 16 to receive a plurality of cigarettes 17 as clearly disclosed by Figure 1 of. the drawings. The top of the section which constitutes the'closure for the case is slightly curved as indicated at 18 to give a more pleasing appearance to the receptacle although if so desired, the top may be perfectly flat as manufacturing necessities may require. It will be observed that the upper edge of the sides 15 extends only to a point adjacent the front edge 20 of the closure, said sides being formed with a groove '21 in which a sliding mirror 22 is provided so that whenthe said mirror is moved to its lower position, the'c-igarette or money receiving compartment 16 is concealed. The front edge of the mirror is preferably provided with a curved frame or holder 23 conforming to the shape of. the front edge 20, thus giving the receptacle the appearance of two hingedly connected sections, one of which is provided with the 003- .metics and the other with a mirror, cigarettes being concealed. When it is-desired to fill the compartment 16 with cigarettes or place moneyfltherein, it will be readily recognized that-by simply sliding the mirror 22 outwardly of the front 20, that the particular article or articles may be placed therein and under ordinary circumstances, when the case is open, it will present the appearance of the conventional type of vanity 110 case that will have a concealed compartment for the individual use of the owner.
Vhile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise alter ing the arrangcn'ient of the correlated parts Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. A vanity case comprising two hingcdly connected sections. one of said sections having a plurality of cosmetic receiving compartments therein, and the second section having a sliding mirror and a concealed.
cigarette or change compartment when opened, the second section constituting a closure for the first mentioned section.
2. A vanity case comprising two hingedly connected sections. one of saidsections having a plurality of cosmetic receiving coinpartmcnts therein. the second section having an outwardly sliding mirror and a concealed cigarette or change compartment beneath.
the said mirror, the second section constituting a closure for the first mentioned section.
3. A vanity case comprising two hingedly connected sections, one of said sections having a plurality of cosmetic receiving compa rt-ments formed therein, the second section having its sides grooved near the top thereof. a mirror slidable within said grooves and constituting a closure for a cigarette or change receiving con'ipartment, the second mentioned section as an cnt irety constituting a closure for the first mentioned section.
-t. A vanity case comprising two hingedly connected sections. one of said sections having a plurality of cosmetic receiving compartments formed therein. the second section having each of its sides formed with a groove near the top thereof. a removable. sliding mirror within the top of the second section, the sideso't the second section terminating at a point near the front edge thereof. the front edge of the mirror being a continuation of thesidcs of said section and constituting a closure for a cigarette or change compartment. the second mentioned section constituting as an entirety a closure for the first mentioned section.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature.
