G. W. FOWLE ET AL EXHAUST BOX Filed Sept. '7. 19 22 2 Sheets-5mm. 1
FIGURE 1 I VENT R-S FIGURE 3 'Now as the gears 19 revolve carried 111 a circular path by the same, but
nae
are always held in a horizontal position and the cans carried thereby in .a vertical plane. the shelves are due to the form, proportions and connectlons between. the shelves, the gears and the plates let by connecting cranks 16, t11e shelves are maintained in their normal horizontal plane during the entire revolution because of the fact that the disc l lis 'ecoeir trically placed with relation to gears 19 as isclearly shown, 7 [End members 1 per edge thereofas at 27 to allow discs to project inwardly thereof, said discsQt} being so placed as to just clear gears 19 and have their uppeigedge on a plane with t bottoms 25 ofshelves 22 as shown.
The discs 28 are revolublyfmounted in bearings 29 and 30 by means or" shaft 31,
the same being drivenin the direction indi-' cated by the arrows by means of gears 3233 mounted as shown.
vMounted upon the inner edge of en members 1 as shown. and extending alon the upper edge of disc 28'is a can guide which is placed at the can entering end of the exhaust box only. 1
Mounted upon and ,cover 11 are ya series of can moving, plates 35, the same being so placed and propor tioned as to take a can which is on the shelf ascending to the extreme upper position and move the same over the space of one can as the shelf -moves from that position to its highest point or its upper position as shown. This action thus moves a-can over one space all along the upper shelf which thus makes a space for a can coming from the feeding-disc 28 and places a can upon the discharge disc as shown. Thus every time a shelfreaches the top of its path of travel we feed in'a'can and discharge fank other can which has been moved successively and slowly from one endof the machine to the other. i f
I 'During this slow travel through the-machine the contents of the cans are heated by means of hot air or steam supplied through the heating pipes 36 lyingalong the bot- 7 tom of the drum as shown.-
. It is apparent that for lons etc.
are cut away'at the up depending from. the
different sized cans incense J into efiect- By removing cover plate 11 we can raise the shelves from theirsupporting means 18 as the drum is revolved and place other? shelves of greater or less width in place thereof as thesize' of the cans demand. its-the can moving members 35 are secured to the cover 11 we replace the cover removed by another having the proper number and size of can moving elements thereon and the machine is againready for use. p w
It is readily apparent that we have in vented an improved exhaust bo'xwhich will easily and uickly handlea large amount of canned fru t of all sizes with a niinimum amount of labor and power expended by means of a machine which is s'impleol construction, easily manufactured and one that is highly eflicient in its practical, applicat1on.
It is "to be understood,
one particular embodiment of our invention, that changesyin form, construction, proportions, and method of operation may be made within the claims.
