DISPLAY DEVICE.

To all whom it mag concern Be it known that I, FRANK VVEREN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Display Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in mechanical devices, and it pertains more particularly to a mechanism especially adapted for advertising purposes.
It isone of the primary objects of the invention to provide a device for the display of various articles, in which, if desired, the articles displayed are continuously rotated. It is a further object of the invention to provide adevice of this character in which themechanism is electrically driven.
It is a still further object of the invention to construct a device of this character so that it will comprise a unitary structure capable of being moved from place to place.
.With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is. a top plan view partly broken away, and partly in horizontal section, of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, the device comprises a base 5, preferably circular in form, and provided adjacent its edge with an upstanding flange 6. Gentrally disposed with respect to the base 5 and projecting vertically from its upper face, is a hub portion or bearing member 7 and said bearing member 7 is provided with a centrally disposed cut-out portion 8. The base is provided at its centralpoint with an internally screw-threaded recess 9, and adapted to be removably secured in said recess 9, is a bearing support in the form of a plug 10. Carried by the bearing support 10, is a thrust bearing 11, and said bearing is so positioned with respect to the pluglO that the same is permanently carried thereby, the plug 10 being cut out as at 12, to form a seat for said bearing.
Secured to the heretofore mentioned flange 6 in any desired manner, is a housing 13, and said housing 13 is preferably formed of light sheet metal capable of being bent about the base in conformation with the flange 6 thereof.
The reference character 15 designates a rotating platform or table, and the defining edge thereof is formed with a depending flange 17 adapted to overlie the upper open end of the housing 13, and said depending flange 17 is arranged in spaced relation to the open end of said housing 13. This rotating platform ortable 15 is provided on its under surface with a circular track 18, and said circular track 18 is adapted for engagement with supporting rollers 19 arranged at equi-distantly spaced intervals about the housing 13. Thesesupporting rollers 19 are supported in bearing blocks 20, which in turn are supported from brackets 21. The brackets 21 comprise substantially *U-shaped members, one leg 22 of which is secured to the base 5, by means of bolts 23, while the other leg 24 of each of said 'U-shaped members forms the support for a bearing block 20, the same being secured thereto by means of bolts 25. Secured to the'under face of the rotating platform or table 15, at its central point, by means of screws or the like 26, is a bearing member 27, and said bearing member 27 carries a depending shaft 28. The lower end of the shaft 28 is reduced as at 29, and engages the thrust bearing 11 carried by the plug 10 in order that the friction attendant the rotation of the table 15 may be reduced.
As more clearly shown in Fig. 1, the shaft 28 carries a gear 30, and said gear 30 is secured to the shaft in order that upon rotation of said gear, the shaftand table 15 will be rotated relatively to the housing 13. Meshing with the gear 30, is a worm gear 31, and said gear 31 is mounted upon a shaft 32.
Each of the aforementioned parts of the driving mechanism and those to be hereinafter described, are enclosed by means of a housing 33, and said housing 33 forms the supporting means of the bearings of the several shafts constitutin the driving mechanism. This housing 33 is supported by the central hub or bearing member 7, and it is secured thereto by means of screws or the like 33, which pass through the bottom wall of the housing and engage in suitable recesses provided for the purpose in the upper end of the hub portion or bearing member 7.
The shaft 32 is mounted in bearings 34, which in turn are carried by the housing 33,
and one end of said shaft as designated by the reference character 35, projects beyond one of the end bearings 34, as more clearly shown in Fig. 1. Mounted upon the free end of the shaft 35, is a gear wheel 36, and said gear wheel 36 has driving engagement with a worm gear 37. This Worm gear 37 is carried by a shaft mounted in bearings 38 in the housing 33, and one end of this shaft is projected beyond the bearing 38 as indicated by the reference character 39.
The reference character 40 designates a pulley and said pulley is secured to the pro- ]ecting end 39 of the shaft upon which the worm gear 37 is mounted, as more clearly shown in Fig. 1. The reference character 41 designates an electric motor and the armature shaft of said motor is provided with a small pulley 4L2. Passing around the pulley 40 carried by the shaft 39 and pulley 42 carried by the armature shaft of the electric motor 41, is a belt 43, by means of which driving connection between the motor and the pulley 40, is established.
In the present instance racks 45 are shown as mounted upon the upper face of the rotating table 15, said racks serving to support the articles to be displayed. It is obvious, however, that other suitable means for supporting articles to be displayed may be employed since this forms no salient feature of the present invention.
The operation of the device is as follows:
Upon current being supplied to the elec tric motor 41, the shaft 39 will be driven through the medium ofthe pulleys 40 and 42, and the belt 43. Upon driving the shaft 39, the worm 37 will be driven, which in turn will drive the gear 38. The gear 38 serves to drive the shaft 32, and through the medium of the worm 31, the gear wheel 30 will be rotated Owing to the fact that the gear Wheel 30 is carried by the shaft 28, which in turn is connected to the hub member 27, it is obvious that upon rotatiofi of the gear wheel 30, the table 15 will be re volved. 7
It is obvious that bychanging the ratio of the several elementsof gearing which go to make up the driving mechanism, the speed at which the table 15 will be rotated may be varied, if desired, and that such other minor changes in detail may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

A device of the character described comprising a main housing having a centrally arranged stud perforated to receive a shaft, a shaft mounted in said perforation, a gear carried by said shaft and occupying a horizontal-plane, a second shaft mounted at right angles to the first-mentioned-shaft, a worm gear carried by said second-mentioned shaft and meshing with the first-mentioned gear, a. worm wheel carried by said second-mentioned shaft, a worm gear meshing with said worm Wheel, a shaft carrying said Worm gear, a plurality of housings for housing each of said gears, said housings comprising an integral structure surrounding the first-mentioned gear, and means for securing said housings to the upper end of the centrally-disposed stud of the first-mentioned housing.
