provements in Clothespins, of which thek following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. n The invention relates to clothes` pins, and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprising a pair `of members slidably mounted and keyed on a shaft and normally forced together by means of coiled springs interposed between the members and heads carried by the. shaft. The members have bevelled edges so thatthe same can be forced over a clothes line and clothes thereon against the action of the springs until the line is received in registering recesses in the members. n
A further object is to form the members disc shaped, and to provide their inner faces with registering rectangular shaped grooves for the reception of the clothes line, the corners of the rectangular shaped 'grooves eX- tending through the outer sides of the disc shaped members.
A further object is to provide a clothes pin comprisingregistering elongated members in pairs at right angles to each other, which members are. slidably keyed on a shaft and movable against the action of coiled springs, one member forming a handle when the other members are used'for clamping purposes.
With the above and otherobjects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as he-reinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. A

Figure 2 is a side elevation of the clothes holding device. y
Figure 3 is a verticaltransverse sectional view through the device taken on line 3 8 of Figure 2.

Referring'to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a clothes line clamping device, which device comprises round disc shaped members 2, which are iny registration with each other. The disc shaped members 2 are slidably mounted on an axially disposed lshaft 3, and are keyed vthereon by means of a keyv 4 `for preventing rotation of the discs in relation to each other. rlhe ends :of the'shaft 3 extend beyond the outer faces ofthe discs 2 and are provided with heads 5. Interposed between the heads 5 and the outer faces of vthe discs l2 are coiled springs 6, which spring normally maintain the discs 2 in close engagement with eachother for clamping a clothes line and clothing in the registering straight sec tions 7 of rectangular grooves 8 which are preferably semicircular shaped in cross section and are carried by the yinner faces of the disc shaped members 2. The rectangular shaped grooves 8. register with each other and are maintained infregistration by the key t, which prevent rotation of the discs 2 in relation to each other. The cor- ,ners 9 of the registering rectangular shaped grooves 8 extend throughvthe outer sides of the disc-s 2 and consequently, when `a clothes line is forced through or between the discs in engagement with bevelled edges 10 thereof, the clothesline will be received in theadjacent straight portions 7 of the grooves 8 and will extendthrough the corners 9 and be securely clamped and held by the expansive yaction of the coiled springs.
It will be seen that the clothes line clamping device may be easily and quicklyapplied to a clothes line and that a line yand piece of clothing carried thereby may be Securely clamped and held. It will also be seen that pin shown in Figthe device vis positive in its operation and.r
the parts reduced to a minimum` Referring to the modified forml shown in Figures 4 and, the device comprises a shaft 3a on which is slidably keyed by` means of a key 4a, clamping members l1 andy l2, which members are disposed at a right angle to each other and in pairs. The clamping members 11 are elongated and have their'ends bevelled at 13, ,so that a clothes line can be forced between the'same to assumea position in the registering recesses 14 Where it will be securely held by the action of the coiled springs 15, which are interposed;betweenftheV heads lcairriedbythe shaft 3@ and the outer members 1l and 12. The members ll` and l2 are disposed at a rightfangleto .each-other and consequently When a'l'ine is' forced between the ends of either of the member Sgt-lieg,
other members Will be in a position to be used as a handle bytbeoperatorilit/Zwill-V also be seen that the device is simple in yeenstruction` and positiye'finf itsaoperatfion.
