To all whom it may concern:
citizen of the United States, residing at Providence Township, in the county of Buena Vista and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Disk Sharpeners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful in'iprovements in disk Sharpeners.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a machine or device of this character which issimple and economical in construction, highly efficient in operation and whereby the operation of sharpening the disks may be greatly expedited.
With the foregoing and other objects in view that will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which are for illustrative purposes only and are there fore not drawn to scale Figure 1 is a front elevational View, illustrating the application of my invention.

Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention, and in which drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, my machine or device com- A, consisting of the base 1 of wood or other suitable material and the upright metal standards 2 and 3, respectively, connected together by a pair of horizontal laterally spaced longitudinally disposed brace rods These brace rods are provided at one end with depending hooks 5 which engage apertured brackets 6 carried by standard 2 and are arrangedwith their opposite ends 7 extending through the standard 3 and equipped with collars 8 which are held against the outer face of, the former by set screws 9 or other equivalent means. In practice, shaft 10 carrying the gangor series of disks to be sharpened, is mounted in position with one end operatively engag I ing the stub shaft 11 of gear 12 and its opposite end engaging the adjustable bearing 13 carried by standard 3. Gear 12 is driven by a belt 14; working over a pulley 15 carried by the adjacent end of shaft 16 and driven. from a motor (not shown) or other source of power, the gear 12 and shaft 16 being connected together by a train of low speed gears 17. Shaft '16 extends longitudinally through and is journaled in the standards 2 and 3. This shaft is square in cross section and provided with a worm 18 longitudinally movable thereon, which intermeshes with a pinion 19 journaled on shaft 20 in the housing 21, which is also movable longitudinally on the aforesaid shaft with the worm.

In carrying out my inventionj provide a rigid bar 24, consisting of a curved arm secured to the extension 22 of the housing 21 and a straight armor handle 26 and pivoted at its rear end to the outer end of said curved arm, as at 27, to swing in a horizontal plane, is a hand lever 28carrying a roller 29 which works against the concave face of the disk to be sharpened, and pro- 9 vides means whereby the grinding wheel may be held against the disk with the. desired pressure. The handle and lever 26 and 28, respectively, also provide means for raising the grinding wheel and associated parts in the arc of a circle preparatory to engaging it with the next disk to be sharpened. To facilitate the mounting of p the plow or harrow disks in position for grinding, I provide a hoist comprising flexible elements 30 connected with and adapted to Wind upon the horizontal shaft 31 and provided at their free ends with hooks 32. Shaft 31 is removably journaled on the standards 2 and 3, provided at one end with a suitable crank or handle 33 and held against reverse rotation by the pawl and ratchet 34 and 35.
The shafts 11 and 16 are so geared that while the emery wheel runs against the edge of the disk to be sharpened, the disk turns slowly so that every point is equally sharpened.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principles or sacrificing any of the advan tages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.

Apparatus for sharpening disks mounted upon a disk shaft comprising a frame, means carried by the frame for supporting and turning the disk shaft, a noncircular shaft journaled upon the frame, means for rotating said noncircular shaft simultaneously with the disk shaft, a worm member slidably mounted upon the noncircular shaft, a housing loosely mounted upon the noncircular shaft and receiving the worm member, a shaft journaled in the housing, a worm wheel fixed to the last mentioned shaft and meshing with the worm member, a grinding wheel carried at the end of the last mentioned shaft, a curved handle bar fixed to the housing, a lever fulcrumed to the handle bar and a roller journaled upon the lever and arranged to rotate in a plane lying at a right angle to the plane in which the grinding wheel rotates.
