J. F. LEIDECKER DETACHABLE BUTTON Filed March 29. 1923 INVENTOR JOHN F. LE/DEGKEH.
ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 22, 1924.
FATE
DETACHABLE BUTTON.
Application filed March 29, 1923. Serial No. 628,492.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN F. LEIDECKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alameda, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Buttons, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention is an improved detachable button.
The object of my invention is to provide a button which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
A further object is to provide a button which will tenaciously grip the cloth and which may be readily attached and removed as desired.
In the drawing in which my invention is illustrated, I have shown the preferred form 2 but it may be embodied in other forms, and
in this application I wish to cover my invention in whatever form it may be embodied.
Referring to the drawing: Figure l is a side view of my button in positlon in a piece of cloth.
Figure 2 is a front View of the gripping member.
Figure 3 is a rear View of the locking member.
Figure 4: is a side view of the same. Figure 5 is a side view of the gripping member engaging the cloth.
Referring more particularly to the'drawing, my button consists of a gripping mem her 1 and a locking member 2. The gripping member 1 is formed of a pair of jaws 3 and 4: which are hinged together at 5--5. Teeth 6 and 7 extend from the jaws 3 and 4 respectively, and are adapted to engage the cloth to hold the button in place, as shown in Figures 1 and 5. To engage the teeth 6 and 7 the jaws 3 and 4c are swung forwardly on their hinges 5-5, thus separating the teeth and enabling them to bite into the cloth when the jaws are again swung together rearwardly. To hold the jaws 3 and 4: in their engaging position a locking member 2 is provided which con sists of a surface plate 8 which may be of any desired shape or design; a groove 9 is formed back of the plate 8 into which the outer edges of the jaws 3 and 4; are adapted to fit. The jaws are compelled to spring slightly in entering the groove 9 which holds them securely in place and in a locked position.
7 Having described my invention, I claim: 1. A button comprising a pair of jaws hinged together, teeth on said jaws, a looking plate, said plate having a groove therein, the outer edges of said jaws being adapted to rest in said grooves.
2. In a button comprising a pair of jaws connected to clamp the cloth, a locking plate comprising the face of the button having a groove in the back thereof adapted to cooperate with the edges of said jaws.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
J OHN- F. LEIDECKER.
