E. C. REIMER STEEL wooL HOLDER Filed Nov. 2 1922 :it sFr-Ta ERNEST c. animador ALG'oNeU'rN, ILLINOIS.
, STEEL-woor. HOLDER.
. Application led November To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ERNEST C. REIMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Algonquin, in the county of McHenry, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Steel-Wool Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, 'and eXact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ing means whereby the wool may be utilized without contact with the hand, and -also forming means whereby pressure may be applied to the wool during a scouring operation.
A further ob'ect is to provide the device with a screw eed disc, which disc forces -the steel wool outwardly.
A further object' is to provide the steel wool with a paper wrapping whereby it may be easily handled and will easily feed downwardly through the device.
With the above and other object in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement v of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the .precise embodiment 'of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention:
ln the drawin Figure 1 isa side elevation'of the holder.`
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the holder.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional 'view through the holder taken on line 3`3 of Fi ure 2.
eferring tothe drawing, the numeral l designates the casing of the holder, which casing may be of any suitable shape in horizontal cross section, howeverl for purposes of illustration it is shown cylindrica shaped. Threaded. on the upper end of the casing 1 is a cap 2, in a :bearing 3 of which the feed screw 41- is rotatabl mounted. rllhe feed screw a extends axia ly into the casing 1 and 2, 192e. serial' No. 598,611.-
is imbedded at its lower end in thev steel wool 5, which Wool is adapted to be forced downwardly to the-restricted open end 6 of the casing l where 'it can be used by the operator for scrubbing vor cleaning, particularly pots and pans. The restricted opening prevents the steel wool 5 from dropping out of the casing 1, if the same should be loose therein, and at the same time. causes the wool to be thoroughlycompact where it leaves the tubular member 1, thereby allowing the maximum etciency to be obtained 'from the steel wool frwhen in use. When in use the operator grasps the tubular member 1 and rubs the exposed lower end 7 of the steel wool over a surface to be cleaned.
-The steel wool 5 which is encased in paper 5a is forced downwardly by the disc 8 which engages the upper end 9 thereof and through whichdisc the feed screw 4c is threaded at 10. Disc' 8 is prevented from' rotation during the rotation of the feed screw et by the uide rib 11 extending vertically, and inwar ly from the wall of the casin 1,?which guide rib may be formed integra y with the inner periphery ofthe tubular casing as shown in Figures 2 and 3, or if so desired may be a separate strip 'brazed or otherwise secured to the tubular easin Feed screw et is provided with an annu ar flange 12 which engages the under side of the cap 2 during the rotation of the feed `screw thereby preventing upward movement of the feed screw and insuringdownward feeding lof the disc 8.- The upper end of the feed screw 4i is provided with a ring 13 by means of which ring the device may be suspended from a support, however the ring also forms means adapted to be grasped by the-operator for l rotating the feed screw.
From the ,above it will be seen that a steel 'wool holder is provided, which holder is simple in construction, the parts reduced to a minimum and so constructed that the ope'rators hands will not come in contact with the steel wool during a scrubbing operation and also constructed' in such a manner that the maximum pressure ma be lapplied on the steel wool during a Seru hing operation.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is holder for paper cartons containing steel wool, said holder comprising a tubular member, a cap threaded on the upper end'of the tubular member, a feed screw rotatably `mounted in a bearing of the cap, a carton In testimony whereof l have signed my engaging disc threaded on the feed screw name to this specification in the presence of and disposed Within the tubular member, a two subscribing Witnesses.
