Our improved machine consists of a casing 1 divided into two sections "by a longitudinal partition 2 extending the itull length ot th-e machine. Located some distance on isch side oft the central partition 2 are partitions 3 having openings 1 in which are located circulating lans 5 mounted on horizontal shafts GQ The shaits 6 are geared to a longitudinal shatt 7 by means et spiral gears 53, shmvn in Fig. It. At each end of the machine are motors 9, which drive the shaft 7.

The two partitions 2O and 21 term a drying chamber 26, in which the carriers travel. r1`he air circulates in the several chambers, as shown clearly by the arrows, Fig. 3.
In the upper, circulating chamber 22'are steam coils 2i' and in thelower, circulating chamber 23 are steam coils 28. These coils heat the air in circulation.
The machine is divided into compartments. There is a long drying compartment c, indicated in Fig. 1; a short cooling compartment a regaining compartment c, in which a certain amount ot moisture is added, and a conditioning compartment d. (lomnuinicating with the drying compartment are exhaust fines 29, in which are fans that remove the moist air from the drying compartment. lommunicating with the cooling compartment are tlues 31 that admit 'fresh air to said compartment. At the center oi the machine are ilues 32 that allow the air to exhaust from the cooling compartment, Fig. 4;.
3S designates temperature controllers, which are located in the drying compartnient c. 841; designates recording wet and dry bulb controllers, which are located in the regaining compartment. $35 designates recording wet and dry bulb controllers located in the conditioning compartment.
The operation is as follows: The fans circulate the air in the direction indicated by the arrows. The carriers are loaded with the glass cylinders on which the artiticial silk, or other material, to be dried, is wound. These carriers are fed intermittently through the machine. At the feed end of the machin-e is an automatic pushing de:- vice 36, of any suitable type, which pushes the carriers forward a certain distance to allow another carrier to be placed in the machine. Doors 37 are provided at the feed end of the machine and doors 3 8 are provided at the discharge end of the machine.
By this mechanism, the artificial silk, or like material, is dried properlyand is conditioned as it passes through the machine.
We' claim:
l. The combination in amachine for drying and Yconditioning material, of a casing; a: longitudinal partition dividing the casing into two sections; a longitudinal partition in each section having fan openings; fans in said openings; meansr for driving the fans; horizontal partitions extending part way across the upper portion of each sectionl and another horizontal partition extending part way across-the sections near the lower ends thereof so as to cause the air to circulate; a series of rails extending longitudinally in each sect-ion; carriers suspended fromthe rails, said carriers having arms; and cylinders, mounted on the arms, carrying thel material to he dried and conditioned.
2. The combination of a casing; a longitudinal, partition dividing the casing into two sections; means for circulating air in each section ;\coils for heating the air in circulation; overhead rails in each section; carriers suspend-ed from the rails, said carriers haa/*ing arms; and cylinders, mounted on the arms, carrying the material to be dried and conditioned.
3. The combination of a casing; a. longitudinal partition within the casing stopping short of the top and bottom thereof and having fan openings therein; horizontal partitions extending froml the longitudinal partition at points above and below the fan openings and stopping short of the opposite side of the drier section; heating pipes for heating air in circulation; overhead rails; carriers ysuspended from said rails in the space between the two horizontal partitions; and means, on the carrier, for supporting material to be dried.
4. The combination of a casing; means for circulating air in the casing; means for heating the air in circulation; an overhead rail; and a series of carriers suspended from the rail, said carriers having means vfor sup- ].iorting material to be dried, said casing being divided longitudinally into 'four compartn'ients', the iirst' being a drying compartment, which has means for exhausting air therefrom, the second a cooling compartment, which has inlets for fresh air at one sine and outlets for air at the opposite side, the third a regaining compartment, and the fourth a conditioning compartment.
5, The combination of a casing; a longitudinal partition dividing the casing into two sections; a longitudinal partition .in each section stopping short of the top and bottom thereof and having fan openings therein; tivo horizontal partitions extending from the partitions having the fan openings therein to a point short of the opposite side of each section; a. series of overhead rails above the upper partitions; guides at the lower partitions; and a series of carriers mounted on the rails and extending between the lower guides, said carriers having means for supporting material to be dried.
(3. The combination in a machine for drying and conditioning material, of a casing means for circulating air in the easing; means for heating the air in circulation; an overhead rail extending longitudinally within the casing; a series of carriers suspended from the rail, each carrier consisting oi a frame having swiveled trolleys: trolley wheels mounted on the rails and having guide wheels at the lower end; arms on the frame for supporting the material to be dried and conditioned; and longitudinal guides in the lower portion of the casin g for guiding the frame of the carrier.
7. The combination in a machine for drying and conditioning material, of a casing; means for circulating air in the casing; means for heating the air in circulation; an overhead rail extending longitudinally through the casing; a. series of carriers suspended from the rail, each carrier consisting of a frame; and -a series of arms extending on each side of the frame, each of said arms being recessed to receive cylinders on which thelmaterial to be dried and conditioned is liltl lub
