PLUG FOR GLASS MACHINES.
Application filed November 7, 1922. Serial No. 599,507
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES W. OASTO, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of \Vashington. in the county of Vashington 5 and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plugs for Glass Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as i! will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to plugs for glassmnchines, and has for its object to provide a plugwhich will withstand the extreme heat without cracking and breaking apart.
The invention consists of certain novel features and details of construction as will be more fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claim.
: I will now describe my invention, referonce being had to the accompanying drawings. in which similar letters of reference, indicate corresponding parts, and in which- Figure 1. is a partial vertical sectional view of my improved plug. Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3, is a vertical sectional view of the plug, showing more clearly the exact construction thereof, and Fig. l, is a transverse sectional view of the 39 same.
In the constructioniof my improved plug, I use a hollow metallic reinforcement A, which is provided with a series of perforations or openings B. I then fill the interior of this reinforcement with fire-clay C, which projects out through all of the perforations or openings B, when same is coated or covered over the entire surface with fire-clay, which cements itself with the projecting portions of the clay, making a smooth, round plug.
A hole D, is then made in the top end of the lug, for securing the lug pr per to the operating mechanism of the machine.
Other designs of reinforcement may be used by me, without departing from the general idea of my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A lug for glass-machines, consisting of a meta lie reinforcement provided with a series of perforations or openings, said reinforcement being filled with fire-clay which projects through the perforations or openings and adheres with the outside coating or covering, forming a smooth round plug proper, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention, I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of a subscribing witness.
CHARLES W. CAS'TO.
