T all whom it may concern 7 Be it known that I, WILLIAM CHALMERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lovelocks, in the county of Pershing and State of Nevada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match Strikes, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an im- 10 provement in match-strikes especially adapted for use with smoking pipes.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is especially adapted for use on the ordinary five-cent corn cob pipe and which, while c0n1para tively inexpensive to produce, affords a ready, convenient and effective means for the ignition or lighting of matches and enhances the appearance and utility of the pipe.
Other objects and advantages of the invention reside in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, and in which:

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 20 designates an ordinary corn cob pipe having a bowl 21 provided with a flat bottom' to the under surface of which a disk 22 is attached by means of an adhesive such as glue or the like or by other fastening means. The exposed face of the disk is surfaced to provide a match strike. The same effect may be had by applying glue or the'like to the pipe bottom and then dipping it into sand. 7
The latter method of producing the match scratch on the fiat bottom on the bowl is preferred since it is comparatively inexpensive and is susceptible of embodiment in the ordinary five-cent corn cob pipes so to provide the users of such pipes the convenience of a match scratcher and also to enhance the appearance and general utilities of the pipe.
I claim:
In a match scratcher, a pipe having a bowlwith a flat bottom, and an abrasive material directly cemented onto the under surface of said bottom. 7
