This metal mesh insert may be secured in the ad by placing it between two'la ers of rubl er, and then vulcanizin the rub r together. The layers of rub er are vulcan- 1 ized together through the meshes of the Wire insert so that a' very tough durable construction is secured, the construction being substantially as though the wire mesh'were embedded in anintegral body .of rubber. If
the construction shown in my previous patent, in that the edges of the pad and tube adjacent the stem cannot be squeezed out from underneath the clampi members, and in which the member w ich accomplishes this desirable result can be made-to extend close up to the valve stem itself. The wire mesh furthermore has more flexibility than the metal late, which enables it to accommodate itsel to the tube to which it is attached. The wire mesh enables the two layers of rubber between each of the plates to be readily vulcanized together through the mesh of the fabric which gives a very tough construction.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. A pneumatic tube having an o enin therein, a valve stem passing throug openin and a pad for preventing injury to said tu e adjacent said stem, said pad comprisin a layer of flexible yielding material and a ayer of woven metal having an openin through which said stem passes.

A pneumatic tube having an openin therein, a valve stem passing through said opening, and a pad for preventinginjury to said tube adjacent said stem, said pad comprising a body of flexible yieldm r material, and. a layer of woven metal em dded in said body, said body being vulcanized to said tube, and said layer of woven metal having an opening through which said valve stem ,extends.

A pneumatic tube having an openin therethrough, a valve stem passing through said openin and a ad for preventing injury to sai tube pad comprising a ho y of flexible yielding material, and a layer of woven metal embedded in said body, said layer of woven (jiacent said stem, said I metal having an opening throughwhiclr said valve stem extends, said valve stem being rovided with clamping members embracing the pad and the portion of the tube through which the valve stem extends.
