citizen of the United States, residing at Augusta, in the county of Butler and State 6 of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Band-WVheel-Turning Devices following to be a full, clear,

and I do hereby declare the and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to a band wheel turning device.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple, practical and efficient device of strong, durable and inexpensive construction designed for turning, truing and smoothing the band wheels of standard oil rigs.

In the accompanying drawings, in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the band Wheel turning device comprises in its construction a rod or member 1 provided at one end with a handle or grip 2 and slidable at its other end through an eye or openin 3 in the head 4 of a pivot 5, which is pref erably in the form of a bolt and threaded at one end for the reception of a nut 6 and washers 7. The rod 1 is preferably round, whereby it may both rotate and slide in the eye or opening 3 and is in sections joined by a block or member 8 having an opening 10 for the reception of the bit or chisel 11. Block 8 and the sections of the rod 1 are secured together by welding or in any other suitable way. 95

In practice the rod is usually of approximately three and one-half feet in length for operating on band wheels of a diameter of ten feet, and the block or tool bearing 8, which constitutes the tool holder, may be conveniently made substantially two inches square, but the size of the block or member may of course be varied to accommodate bits or chisels of different sizes and for providing a device of the proper size to meet the requirements.

The block or holder is provided with a slot 10 for the reception of a chisel or tool 11 preferably constructed of tool steel about an inch wide and one-half inch thick and approximately twelve inches long. The tool is provided between its ends with a quarter twist 12 to arrange its portions at opposite sides of the twist in planes at right angles to each other and either portion of the tool may be secured in the slot 10 of the tool is in position 'for operating on the band wheel the block or tool bearing 8 will rest flat against a rest or support. By providing a tool of this character band wheels may be turned up much truer than heretofore and it will not be necessary to discard the band wheels, which are often thrown away by reason of the inability of the workman to properly turn up and true the same.

What is claimed is:

A turning appliance consisting of an elongated rod, a support, means to mount the rod'with respect to the" support'for axial turning and for sliding movement during operation, a tool bearing on said rod, a tool carried by said tool bearing and extending transversely ,of :the rod and the support,
