VVhen it is desired to open a can the prong 'at is forced in the center of the top thereof. Previously' to this, however, the sleeve 5 is adjusted along the bar 1 until the blade 7 is brought to the point where the cut is to be made. The set screw 6 is then tightened to hold the sleeve against further movement. Thus when the prong 4 is forced downwardly into the can the blade 7 will also be forced thereinto. After the parts are thus arranged the device can be rotated about the prong i as a pivot and the blade 7 will cut through the can so as to sever the top thereof.

That is claimed is In a can Opener the combination with a bar, of a yoke fixedly connected at its ends to the end portions of the bar, a handle carried'by the yoke, a prong fixed to and extending from the center of the bar, a sleeve embracing and slidably mounted on the bar, said sleeve being insertible onto either end of the bar. and Inovable from the prong to the end of the bar, the top of the sleeve being opened to pass the yoke. a Cutting blade struck from and integral with the sleeve, and means carried by the sleeve for engaging the bar to hold the sleeve against movement along the bar.
