Application filed July 21,
T (ZZZ whomit may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT C. NAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented Certain new and use" ful Improvements in Trousers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to garments and in particular to the construction of an expansible trouser leg for that type of trousers that are used with leggings and fit closely to the leg.
The object of my invention is to provide a one-piece trouser leg or a continuous trouser leg that will have no opening from the exterior to the interior through which water, dust or other foreign material may enter. It is a further object of my inveni'ifi tion to provide a trouser leg, such as used in army trousers, which will be readily expansible to permit the passage of the shoe and leg through the trouser leg and which may be drawn tightly against the leg and which will lie flat against the leg by a simple and quick adjustment of the lacing.
Heretofore, it has been necessary to lace the trouser leg in such a way that the lacing would be tied at the bottom of the trousers.
It has been heretofore necessary to have the trouser leg split a portion of its length, the split portion being closed by the drawing of the parts together by the draw string or lacing.
The object of the present invention is to provide a collapsible trouser leg that will fold upon itself, that will have no opening which will permit of the entrance of water or foreign material and which may be drawn tightly into position with one hand and the lacing tied at the top where it is most convenient to the wearer.

trouser leg. The upper end of 7--7 where -of lacing eyelets 9 being spaced nearly equidistant from one another at the lower portion of the trouser leg and spaced further away from one another at the upper portion. The lacing 10 is inserted at the bottom of the trousers and is knotted at 11. The lacing is inserted by being placed on the inside of the trousers at the bottom with the knot 11 already made in the lacing. The respective ends are then passed through the holes 12-12 in the collapsible portion 13 of the trouser leg. The lacing 10 is then conveyed outwardly through the eyelet 14 141, near the bottom of the trouser. The lacings are then crossed upon each other on the outside of the trousers and conveyed inwardly beneath the strips 7-7 and again up through the eyelets. This is continued to the top of the lacing where the lacing may be tied together securely by a bow knot when the trouser leg is drawn together in its assembled shape.
The collapsible portion of 1 at 13 is composed of a panel 13 and an angular panel 15 which is creased or bent at 16 and at 17 so that the outer portion of 1 will fold upon 15 and 15 and 1 will fold upon 13, while the portions 7-7 when drawn together will fold upon 1 15 and 13.
The purpose of having the eyelets spaced apart a greater distance near the center of the series of eyelets is to permit of the fingers being inserted beneath the lacings at this point in order to draw up the lower lacings and to bring the lower portions of 77 closely adjacent to one another. After this is done, then the other hand grasps the upper ends of the lacings at 10 and completes the drawing of the parts 7-7 to one another and the tightening of the lacings. The lacings are then tied and permanently fastened together.
While I have shown and described certain features as constituting my invention, it will be understood that parts have been shown for purposes of illustration only,'and
that I do not desire to be limited to such details, as obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a pair of trousers, a leg having front and back portions of substantially equal width connected at their edges bystitching,
upper ends whereby one of the strips laps the other adjacent said gusset, said strips being connected to the front portion of the trousers adjacent the plait at each side thereof by stitch lines extending along the edges of the strips, said strips each comprising a doubled fold of material with the raw edges adjacent the stitch line and the folded portion of each adjacent the folded portion of the other, eyelets secured through said folded portion, the eyelet supporting portion being free from the frontmember of the trouser leg and a lacing extending' through said eyelets: to draw the strips" together. I
'In testimony whereof I affix my signature. i ROBERT CL NAYLOR.
