.'ERCE TAG.
Application lefl March i0, 192% To c ZZ 'whom t may concern Be it known that Fnnnnni'ok KoHNLr., a citizen of the United States, and residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful .Price rlag, of which the following specification `is a full disclosure.
This invention relates to improvements in price marking pin tags and pertains particularly to the construction of a double prong or pin wire clip, or fastener, fixed to the tag, as a means of securing the tag to the goods to be ticketed, and further pertains to the provision of a smooth dull pointed pin for the clip.
An object of the invention is to provide a wire pin clip as a tag fastener, with a base portion consisting of several bends, a single length of wire being looped and threaded through the tag material to provide a plurality of strand portions, clinched respectively against opposite sides of the tag and extending longitudinally of the width of the tag, furnishing a means for securely mounting the clip to the tag, and for sustaining the pin portion in an outstanding position with respect to the tag surface or plane, the free ends of the wire being respectively interposed and guarded between pairs of strand portions or bends at the reverse side of the tag, to prevent possible engagement of said ends with the goods to which the tag is applied, and to further prevent injury to the hands of the user.
rPhe features of the invention will be more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specilication, and in the drawings like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, of which:
Figure l is a plan view of a portion of gang tag strip` face side up, showing two full tags, each having one of my improved wire pin clips or fasteners at its upper margin.
Figure i2 is a plan view of the reverse side of the tag.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3, 3, Fig. 1.
Figure d is a section on line d, 4, Fig. 3.
Figure 5 is a` detached perspective view of my improved wire pin clip or fastener, with its elements disposed, as when fastened to the tag.
Price marking tags of the character here- Seral No. 542,759.
in disclosed are preferably formed in strips or gangs comprising a number of tags, said strips designed to be fed through a marking machine for printing the mar ring date upon the tags consecutively or successively and for severing the tags after being so marked, individually from the strip. The marking machines also designed for applying the tags upon the goods to be ticketed, forcing the pins of the clip through the goods and clinching the same thereagainst. ln order to non-interferingly feed the tags through the machine and maintain the pins in a position to be operated upon by the clinching mechanism thereof, it is desirable that the clip be securely mounted upon the tag with its pins in an outstanding posit-ion perpendicular to the plane of the tag, and in a double strand pin form of clip, to have the free or terminal ends of the wire of which. the clip is formed protected and guarded.
Referring to Figs. l to inclusive, l indicates a portion of a gang tag strip having a series of notches 2 cut inwardly from its upper longitudinal edge and definitely spaced apart for defining the tag widths. These notches in the strip provide shoulders for cooperation with the feeding mechanism of the marking machine for a step land measured feed advance of the strip. The pin clips, each as a fastener for the tag, are disposed in alignment at the unpcr margin of the tags respectively between the notches, each clip being formed of a single length of wire and bent to provide a base portion threaded through and clinched upon the tag material and a pair of outstanding double strand pins each presenting a rounded or dull point end.
The clip made from a single length of wire may be described as consisting of a pair of double strand pins each having its own base portion of a plurality of bends, engaging relatively upon opposite sides of the tag material with the bases joined together by a connecting bar or strand 3 as the intermediate portion of the wire length required in forming the clip. This connecting bar or strand 3 extends longitudinally of the width of the tag and preferably lies upon the face side thereof. At the opposite ends of the bar 3, the wire is bent to form return loops 4:, il, which thread through the tag material. From the loops, the wire eX- tends stilistantialljy7 parallel with the bar 3 to provino base strands or bends 5, 5, respectively tor the pins. These strands 5, relatively extend in a direction toward cach other for a determined length, bearing` against the reverse side the tag material, aid each forming portion of the base of a respective pin. As the clip from such opposite portion follows in duplicate lor termin` a pair or' pins and their` bases, the description will be conlined to the singular.
From the. inner end oitl the base strand or bend 5, tho Wire bends at an angle. thence by a return bend upon itsell' to rorni a double strand pin (i, having a rounded point end 7. From the base ol the return pin strand, the wire bends t an angle to pro vide a base strand 8 longitudinally adjacent its companion strand 5 on the reverse side ot the tag material. This strand S extends outwardly and lies opposite the corresponding` end ot the connecting strand f3, 'from which point the wire is bent into a loop S) threaded through the tag, thence extends in- Wardly on the tace side of the tag' aside and parallel with the strand portion 3 'for i determined distance and thence again loops and passes through the tap' inmerial at ll, to bring the tree end l2 ot the Wire on the reverse or pin projecting side ol the tag. The free end l2 is clinched upon the tag reverse side between the base strands 5, 8, as shown in Figs. 2 and fl. This Yformation ot clip offers a base tor each pin composed ol a plurality ot strands or bends clinched upon opposite sides ot the tag in intimate cnjrg'agement therewith, substantiallT anchoringl the pins to the tag, giving increased idity and stability to the pins, sustainingfg them in an outstanding or perpendicular 'positioin and providingv means lor more gwsitively securing the clip to the tag material. The clip can be made from a smaller ,ear-.gre Wire and the tap; of a thinner Weight stock, affording a reduction in the cost ot material. Increasing the number of bases and clinching the same against one or both sides ot' the tag provides an increased bearirn surface for the clipL upon the tag, lessens the possibilit)Yi of the clip cutting` through the tag material when pulling the clip from the goods, increases the stability ot the pin, and positively sustains the saine in its upright or outstanding` position.
Haring described my invention, I claim:
l. A wire clip as a tag fastener, coniarising a single length ot' Wire bent to 'form an intermediate connecting bar, a plurality ot bach and forth bends at the opposite ends oit said bar, adapted to provide loops for threading through the material and pairs ot parallel strands for llinching the tag.;` material. therebetween, and double strand pins leading atan angle `from said ben-ls at the opposite ends otisaid bar, the
vtree ends of the Wire clinched upon one side et' the material, each end between respective pairs ot strands upon the corresponding side ot material.
2. A wire clip comprising a single length ot Wire formed to provide an intermediate connectingr bar, back and :forth bends at the opposite ends of said bar, providing,` relative opposite sets of reentorcing strands parallel with said bar, double strand fold end pins respectively projectimgat anl angle troni each set oli strands and continuous therewith, and compressed together forward and return angle bends, providing rounded dull point pin ends, the tree ends of the wire extending parallel with said first named bends and respectively interposed between a pair thereof.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name, as attested by the two subscribing` witnesses.
