Description
W. G. DENTLEB.
Binders Attachments for Harvesters. N0.I47,3l0.
Patented Feb. 10.1874.
t NrrEn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WESLEY O. DENTLER, OF PALMYRA, NEBRASKA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BINDERS ATTACHMENTS FOR HARVESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,310, dated February 10, 1874 application filed November 15, 1873;
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WEsLEY (l. DENTLER, of Palmyra, in the county of Otoe and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bundle'C'arrier for Harvesters, of which the following is'a specification:
Figure l is a side view of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same:
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved bundle-carrying attachment for harvesters for receiving the bundles when bound, and enabling them to be dropped together when a sufficient number has been collected, and which shall be simple in construction, light, and easily operated.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A is a frame-work, which is designed to be attached to the frame-work of a harvester. B
, is the platform upon which the binders stand,
and which is attached to the horizontal part of the frame-work A. O are the tables upon which the gavels are laid to be bound. D are 'two pairs of curved braces, the lower ends of which are attached to the frame A or platform B, and their upper ends are attached to the -'tables 0. To the braces D are pivoted the upon the ends of the shaft G, which works in bearings in the upright part of the frame A. To the shaft G is attached an arm, H, the end of which is bent at right angles to be caught by the spring-catch I to hold the carriers in place when raised into position to receive the bundles. The spring-catch I is so formed that one of the binders, with his foot, can readily detach it, and allow the carriers to be lowered by the weight of the bundles, which bundles then slide off. With the arm H is connected the end of a curved spring,J, the other end of which is attached to the upright part of the frame A, and which is so arranged as to raise the carriers into position to receive the bundles, when the arm H is caught and held by the spring-catch I looking the carriers in posi-' tion.
By this construction the bundles can be dropped in rows, so that they can be readily shocked, andso that the shocks can be more conveniently and quickly loaded upon a wagon. This construction also prevents the waste of grain from scattering, and from its being shelled out by throwing the bundles upon the ground as they are bound.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The combination, with pivoted. carriers E, of the rod F, shaft Gr, having arm H, springcatch I, and spring J, as and for the purpose specified.
WESLEY O. DENTLER.
