Description
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
JOHN B. HORNE AND DANIEL H. HORNE, OF TOPEKA, KANSAS.
IMPRCVEMENT IN Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,230, dated'February 3, 1874; application tiled November 1, 1873.
CASE B.
To all whom lit may concern:
Be it known that we, J. B. HORNE and D. H. HORNE, of Topeka, county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have invented cert-aiu new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards for laundry purposes, of which the following is a specification:
Our invention relates to certain improvements in ironing-boards, designed more partioularly for use in ironing shirt-fronts; and it consists in a board having one end rounded to correspond with the`neck and shoulders of a shirt, and provided with. a hook for connecting it with the table, and formed with two longitudinal grooves and one transverse groove for the reception of bars, for the purpose of stretchingthe shirt-front and holdin g it smooth while being ironed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a plan or top view of our invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
A represents a board, having one end rounded oii' and formed with' a lug, a, to which is attached a cord or chain, c, with a hook, b, at the end. At the opposite end of the board is a flange or rib, D, extending across the end of the board, somewhat less than the entire width thereof. On the upper side of this flange or rib` is formed a groove, e, which is provided with a har, f, fitting loosely therein. On the upper side of the board A, near the edges, are two grooves, g g, running longitudinally, and provided with bars h h, fitting loosely therein.
In using the board, it is passed between the front and back of the shirt, so that the neck and shoulders will lit snugly over the rounded portion. The hook bis caught under the edge of the table. and the shirt drawn tightly over the board, the connection, by means ofthe hook and cord, holding the board in place. I The portion of the shirt immediately below the front is pressed into the groove e, and there held by inserting the bar f; and the portions on each side of the front are pressed into the grooves g, and there held by inserting the bars l1. Thus the shirt-front is stretched and held in a 'smooth condition while being ironed.
We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In Vcombination with the ironing-board provided With the grooves e g g, the bars f h h, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention we hereunto aix our signatures.
J. B. HORNE. D. H. HORNE.
