Be it known that I, F RANK C. SHERMAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Rochester, in thecounty of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in `Photographic Print Vashing Machines,- of` which the followingis a full, clear, and eX- act specification. v Y
rl`his invention relates to photography and more particularly to a machine for Washing photographic prints. One ofthe objects of my invention is to provide amachine in which prints will befwashed by a rotating drum suspended in a` tankof water; another object is to provide a simple suspension device for thedrum; another object is to provide a driving mechanism vfor the drum which is automaticallymoved from its operative position in contact with the .drum when the latter is moved from thesolution tank; and other objects will appear from the following specification, the novel features being pointed outiin the claims at the end thereof.

This machine consists of a tank 1 for holding the wash water, equipped with a suitable water inlet; (not shown) and a water exit 2.y Thistank is carried by supports .3 at one end and4 at the other, theseparts forming a base. Member 4 is provided with bearings and 6, and member 3 with a single bearing 7 in alignment with bearing `6.
A drum 8 is provided with trunnions 9 and 10 by whichit is suspended, and is equipped with a door 11 hinged at12 to the drum. `Latches 13 are for holding the door shut, in this case formed of U-shaped membersslidable to andfrom ythe locking position shown in Fig. 1, Fig, Btwo small The trunnions 9 and 10 are preferably carried by ball bearings 14l which rest on one `side in seat 15 ofthe lever armyl, and on the other side in Seat 17 of arm 18.r Arml 18 is pinned at 19 to a shaft 20 mounted to turn upon the set pins 21 and 22 which pass through the'bearing seats 6 and 7. Arm 1S vhas an extension 23 resting on an edge 24 of Lthe tank. Lever 16 isalso pinned at 24 to shaft 20, and extends. forwardly across the tank terminating in a handle 25. A shield 26 protects `the hand of an operator from being caught between handle and an edge 2,7 of the tank'upon which lever 16 rests. It is obvious that by raising the handle, as shown by arrows, Fig. 2, the drum: 8 4is raised, as lever 16 raises ytrunnion 10 as it f turns shaft 20, which in turn causes arm 1S to raise trunnion 9, these parts forming, in

Lever 16 isy held in raised position by Vmeans of a latch consistingof a link 28 pivoted to the lever at 29 and movable between two studs 30 and 31-in a wall 32 of the tank.
These studs are headed to guide the link, and
one stud 30 is adapted to engage the notch a 33 in link 28 when in the position shown in Fig.` 1A. To lower drum, raise lever 16 slightly and, holdinglink 28 towards the front of the machine, lower ythe lever; this disengages the slot 33 from pin 30, permitting the link to slide'betweenlthe studs.
The drumis rotated through the follow-y ing mechanism. yA motor is positioned beneath shield 35, the pulley-36 being mounted on the motor `shaft 37. `Fulley conf' nectedto pulley 36 by` a b-elt 39 drives a stub shaft 40 (F i955) carried by bearing 5 of the casting` r4. kThis shaftdrives pulley 41, an-i carries an 'arm 42 which, however, is freely movable thereon, forming a hinged conne;- tion `to the support 4. A. belt'43 connects pulley 41 t0 another pulley 44 mounted on shaft 45. Pulley 44 is affixed to the driving member 45, which in this instance is equipped with rubber friction bands 46--46, for contacting with the smooth periphery47 of drumS. An extension 48 may be provided to limit the rearward movement of arm,42,by :striking the washer 49 mounted `on shaft 20 (Fig.
