O. E. KENT MANDREL Filed Feb. 23, 1922 Patented Sept. 18, 1923. V 7
UNITE STATES ORION EUGENE KENT, OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
MANDREL.
Application filed February 28, 1922. Serial No. 540,068.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, ORION EUGENE KENT, a citizen of the United St-ate's, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent, State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Mandrel; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to mandrels, and has for its object to providea device of this character comprising conically shaped mem bers adapted to be forced into similarly shaped chambers in sleeves of pulleys and jammed therein. Also to provide an @1011? gated screw extending and threaded through one of the conically shaped members and having its end in abutting engagement with the adjacent conically shaped member and forming means whereby said members may be forced apart for removing the same from the conically shaped chamber in which they are jammed. j
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understoodthat changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made'within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spiritshaped chambers 3, in which chambers thefrusto conically shaped. mandrel members at are received. Extending through the members 4 is a bolt 5 which is provided with a head 6 having a lug 7, which is received in the recess 8 of one of the frusto conically shaped members 4, thereby locking thebolt and last named member 4: together. The end 9 of the bolt 5 is threaded and is provided with, a nut 10. It will be seen thatafter the frusto conically shaped members 4. V
have been placed in the chambers they may be tightly jammed in said chambers?) by means of the nut 10 thereby holding the pulley tightly. It has been found that conically shaped members 4: are tightly wedged; and jammed in the chambers 3, therefore it shaped members 4: and has its end 13 in engagement with the inner face 14 of the other conically shaped member 4. It will be seen that by applying a wrench to the head 15 of the screw 11, that said screw may be threaded inwardly in such a manner that the conically shaped members 4: will be forced away from each other, that is after the nut 10 has been loosened orremoved.
From the aboveit will be seen that a mandrel is provided, which may be easily and quickly placed in position within tapered chambers and jammed therein. the conically shaped cones of the mandrel maybe easily and quickly forced apart by Also that the screw 11 thereby breaking the jam or frictional binding of the conically shaped conesin the similarly shaped chambers 3 of the sleeves 2.
The invention having beenset forth what 7 nut threaded on the shaft'and adapted to force said last named frusto conically shaped member inwardly, and a screw threaded through one of the conically shaped members and having its end in abutting engagement with the first mentioned conically shaped member. 7 v
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the of two subscribing witnesses. 1 ORION EUGENE KENT.
