Application-filed November 22,1922. Serial No. 602,616.
T 0 all whom it may concern: 7 Be it known that we, IJONTRAVIL-LE E. Pnirrs and ALrRnn'F. NEBHUT, citizens of the United States, residing at Ilion, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Im- 1: roven1ents in Vegetable Slicers; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
.This invention relates to improvements in slicing devices for vegetables, fruit, etc., and has for its principal object to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive device, the greater part of which may be formed from metal stampings.
Another object is to provide novel means for automatically throwing the feed screw out of play when the object being sliced has been advanced to the maximum.
lVith the foregoing in View, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section of a slicer constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is an upper edge view partly in horizontal section.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional View as indicated by line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Figures 4 and 5 are vertical transverse sections as indicated by lines Hand 55 of Fig. 1.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary side elevation partly in section.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the main stamping.
Figure 8 is a perspective of the lever which co-operates with the feed screw.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a main stamping formed from a single metal plate and including anupright body portion 2, an upper relatively long horizontal arm 3 and a lower shorter arm 4, the two arms extending in the same direction from one edge of the body portion 2 and being disposed in the same vertical plane with said body portion. The lower edge of the upper arm 3 is provided with oppositely bent horizontal lugs 5 constituting feet adapted to rest upon a tabletop while the free end of the horizontal arm 4 carries a clamping screw 6 to secure screw is threaded through vertical bearing 7 formed by bending the free end of the arm 4 upon itself.
plane at right angles to the above mentioned verticalplane, said post carrying a slicing knife 9 which is secured flat against its inner side. The upper end of the post 8 terminates in a horizontal integralprong 10 which extends toward'the upper end ofthe upright body portion 2.
The numeral 11 designates a horizontal stamped metal bearing which is secured by *said feet against the-top of the table. This 2;
At its free end, the upper arm 3 is providedwlth a vertical post 8 which is disposed in a rivets 12' to the upper end of the body por tion 2 of the stamping 1, said bearing slid ably receiving a horizontal screw 13 having a stamped metal handle 1 1 at its rear end, said handlehowever being preferably formed with a wooden hand-grip 15. The front end of the screw 13 rigidly carries a disk 16 which is disposed 'in a plane at right angles to the screw axis, circumferentially spaced portions of said disk being stamped laterally to form fingers 17 adapted to be forced into a potato or the like which is to be rotated against the" blade 9 and fed thereto by the screw. The prong 10 is in alinement with the axis of the screw 13 and serves as a bearing about whichv the object being sliced, is rotated.
The numeral 18 designates a horizontal lever fulcrumed at 19 upon the upper portion of the stamping 1, the front end of said lever being bent jlatl'a-lly as indicated at 20 and formed with screw threads 21 to engage the lower side of the screw 13. The
rear end of the lever 18 extends upwardly and then passes laterally across the screw in spaced relation therewith,-as indicated at 22. The handle 14: is provided with an integral cam 23 adapted to strike the lever end 22 when the screw 13 has moved forwardly to the maximum, thereby rocking the lever 18 to disengage thescrew threads" 21 from the screw 13, discontinuing the feed, the slicing operation being then completed. Like the stamping 1, the handle 14,
and the disk 16, the lever 18 is stamped from a single piece of metal.
,structionhas been provided, yet it will be highly efficient and in every way desirable.
As excellent. results have been obtained from the exact details disclosed, we prefer tov 1. A device of the class describedcom prising a metal stamping having-an upright body portion and upper and lower arms extending at right angles therefrom'in the same direction, said arms being disposed in vertically spaced parallelism, the free ends of said upper arm having an upstanding post disposed at right angles thereto and the upper end of said post terminating in an integral horizontal prong upon which an object may rotate, a knife carried by and secured flat against said post, means carried by said upper end of said body portion for holding and rotating an object to be sliced and feeding it to said knife, and means carried by said lower arm for clamping said upper arm against a table top or the like.
2. A device of the class described comprising a screw having means for holding an object to be rotated and fed thereby, a bearing in which said screw is slidably received, a lever fulcrumed between its ends 3. A device of the class described comprising a metal stamping having an upright body portion, an upper'relatively long arm and a lower shorter arm extending in the same direction from said body portion and in the same vertical plane therewith, the lower edge of said upper arm having oppositely bent lugs forming feet to rest on a table top, the free end of said lower arm being bent to form a bearing, the free end of said upper arm having an upstanding post in a plane at'right angles to said vertical plane, said post terminating in a horizontal prong. extending toward the upper end of said bo'dy portion;
In testimony whereofwe have hereunto affixed our signatures.
